He halfmindedly listened to the voicemail as he left the JFK airport and hopped in the taxi. She was going on about for someone who has been married for less than a month, she didn't feel like a newlywed. Carlos rolled her eyes. Didn't she get it? Marrying her was a political move. That was all it was and all it ever would be. Carlos was losing votes, because Rosa was out of the picture. The people needed to see him as a family man, as his campaign manager told him. He had tried to get his kids back, unsuccessfully. And he couldn't go near Rosa without her brothers and cousins standing in his way. Getting his family back was just not going to happen. It was out of his control.
He met Susan back before Rosa ever left. The divorced mother of three was one of his affairs while he was with her. And one of her many dreams was that he would leave Rosa and marry her. So as soon as he was told that his pull was waning and he needed to have a family, he proposed. The two had a big, advertised wedding in New York, a honeymoon in Burma, and by the time he was back in New York, he was back on top. And yes, he loved being on top. Carlos knew from when he was a kid that he wanted to be in politics. He wanted to be the president of the United States. Being the senator helped him get closer to that goal. But it wasn't enough to keep from getting bored.
Kai was something different. He pulled Carlos out of his reality, and allowed him to forget the nagging woman he really had no feelings for back at home. He was new and refreshing. Despite not being anybody he would ever normally associate with. Carlos found himself unwittingly attached to the younger man. So, that was where he was going now. Ignoring the nagging voicemails, he headed to the hotel. He was late. He should have been there a half an hour ago. But he had been in DC and his flight was delayed coming back. He knew that Kai would be waiting for him. He would make it up to him, he was sure.
He got so distracted thinking about him, that he nearly missed where he wanted to get out at. Nearly throwing his money at the driver, he got out and walked into the lobby. He wasn't used to feeling this excited. It was strange yet inviting. And he couldn't wait to see him again.

This wasn't typical. Kai was used to partners that he'd never see twice. And if he did, then they were probably paying him anyway and it didn't really count anyway. Customers weren't lovers. He didn't think about it afterwards. He didn't think about them. But Carlos wasn't some one night stand or anything close. He meant something to Kai. And naturally, there were times when he knew that he was out of his league. He was a successful politic an and far above Kai's potential. When he first met him, he didn't expect so much to come of it. Hr didn't think that he'd fall for him. But he was starting to think that he had and that through all of their differences, it was exciting.
He was late. It took every ounce of effort not to fidget or pace in his absence. He knew he was a busy man and that he had a family that didn't include him. And as accepting as he was, he tried not to wonder what it would be like to have more. Kai leaned against the wall in the lobby, watching the door anxiously until he saw him. As soon as he did though, he had to stop himself from smiling too much and opted for casual. "You showed." He greeted, trying not to sound like it had worried him briefly.

If Carlos spoke what was on his mind right now, he would sound like a fool. He actually felt giddy, something he hadn't felt in a very long time. And if he was going to feel this way about someone, he would have never guessed that it would be someone like Kai. Kai represented every person Carlos ever sicked his security on to get away from him and his car. He was the type of person Carlos used to scoff about and snidely say that he didn't deserve to live. And yet, here he was, ready to grab the man and kiss him right there in the lobby. Of course, he didn't. Carlos never did believe in public displays of affection, unless it was for politics. And if anyone ever knew about Kai, it would definitely be terrible politics.
"I came," he simply answered, pulling out his hotel key. He had already gotten the room, before he went to DC, and simply kept it paid for until after tonight, so he wouldn't attract any attention going to the desk with a drug-riddled leech. Because, nobody would understand that he wasn't just any drug-riddled leech; he was his drug-riddled leech. And he really couldn't afford to lose any more stamina. Not with it being a big election year coming up. And giving up his position was not something he would risk. As long as Kai understood that, then the two would be just fine.
He stepped in front of the elevator, looking at him. "Flight got delayed," he added as he pressed the call button. Just in case Kai had worried that he was being stood up. Carlos would never stand him up. Not Kai. The press would have a field day with it, which was why it was kept absolutely secret. Carlos was good at dodging the press. He did it when his present wife was his former affair. And he could do it again. As the elevator arrived, he gestured for the young boy to get on first. While calm and collected on the exterior, though, inwardly, Carlos wanted to ravage him.

Kai knew that he had to be careful. He wasn't at all under any false illusions about their relationship or that when he saw him walk through that door, he couldn't immediately wrap his arms around him. It wasn't a public relationship. One, the man was married, two, he was a public figure and he had a hell of a lot riding on his reputation. Kai had no doubts that someone like him could soil it completely. While generally, he wasn't ashamed and thought that he was better off living how he wanted to than how society hoped he would, he definitely felt his circumstances when it came to Carlos. And although he knew where he stood and where he had to stay, it didn't help that he wanted more from it. He wasn't supposed to be this excited to see a goddamn politician. Not unless it was over the hotel or the benefits that came with lingering around with high profile people. But, it wasn't about that. As perplexing as it was, he couldn't help it. And when the two of them were alone, he felt like it was more mutual than one-sided. He shoved his hands into the pocket of his coat before following him towards the elevator. "It happens." Kai replied, although, to be honest, he wasn't sure how often planes were delayed. It appeared to be often enough from what he heard. In all honesty, it had been a long time since he really traveled much of anywhere. As a kid, his family had traveled often. There had been vacations and trips. But, he'd left that life behind years ago.
As the elevator opened up, Kai stepped inside, immediately stepping towards the back of the empty lift before turning to face the doors and subsequently, Carlos. As soon as he was inside, Kai glanced up to make sure that there weren't any cameras peering down at them before a grin spread across his face. He could act completely nonchalant when out there, as not to attract attention. But without eyes spying and no chance for the media to pick up on it, he didn't hide it. "So, how far up we going?" Hotels like this one weren't the kind that he was typically used to. Sure, he might be able to score something fancy now and then, especially with the right kind of clients. But, it didn't happen all that often. Not unless he was with Carlos. Kai knew what type of guy he was. He wasn't in denial about who or what he was. Yet, at the same time, he was fucking head over heels for a politician. A lot of people would have probably warned him against it. Yet, he saw nothing wrong with it. If anything, the secrecy had an exciting quality to it. There was something fun about the sneaking around. And yet, who knew how long that would last? It was difficult restraining himself and come on, it had to go both ways. Caution would lose its novelty, wouldn't it?

As soon as the elevator closed, Carlos was a whole different man. Behind closed doors, he was able to give him the attention that he wanted to. He looked in the kid's eyes, and a smile grew across his face. When he asked where they were going, Carlos couldn't take it. Reaching over, he slammed his hand against the emergency button and stopped the elevator. His hands rested against the elevator wall as he leaned in against him. He could feel the tensions rising already. He didn't know what it was about Kai that made him this way. It was almost like he was meant to be here with him. He had no idea why. But he didn't care, either.
He leaned in and pressed his lips against his. In the heat of the moment, he didn't give a damn that they were in an elevator shaft between floors. He was going to go out of his mind if he didn't taste that boy's kiss again. If Carlos was going to point fingers at any addiction he ever had, this would be it. Anytime he went without having him in his arms, having him to kiss and touch, he nearly went crazy. He had, had, had to be with him. Even though it didn't make any sense. He should never have even spoken to him. But he had. And look where it led him to. Freezing an elevator and kissing him. And by the time the kiss was broken, he looked at him, panting frantically. "That was to make up for the delayed flight," he told him, his hand wandering to his waist so he could grab it and pull him closer.

Kai waited for that change. As soon as they were out of the public eye, he knew that the mood would shift. It would be less about keeping face and more about what these meetings were meant for. The second that he saw the smile, he didn't know if he could return it any more than he already was. He thought he looked even better like this--which was saying a lot, given that he didn't know how he kept his hands off of him in the lobby, much less now. But, when the reserve dropped, he thought that no one could compare to Carlos. He couldn't have guessed how he managed to catch him. What with his history and their stark differences. But, he couldn't have been happier about it. There weren't a lot of things in his life that made him legitimately happy in a way that he didn't have to be high to experience. Frankly, he wasn't thinking about his next high here. He was thinking about the man in front of him.
As the elevator stopped, he laughed under his breath. "Huh. What'd you know? Looks like we just fell into more time." The tension was already there. Denying it would have been near impossible. As soon as he kissed him, Kai responded heatedly. His hands moved to his shoulders, sliding around when he felt the hand on his waist. He only parted to catch his breath, pretty sure that there was nothing better than that. Hell, he didn't know a kiss that could get him that worked up. And he'd experienced a lot of people in his time. He pressed closer at his pull, eyes on him the whole time. "If that's what happens, feel free to be late all of the time." He teased, and once he felt like his breath was caught, he leaned back in, pressing his lips against his hungrily.

When all was said and done, Carlos would be returning home to an unsuspecting wife who thought that he was held up in DC for politics. There was no future for him and the junkie. Not with the way he lived his life.It would take a lot of rehab and education on Kai's part for Carlos to ever consider actually being with just him. It would mean sacrificing his career. And Carlos' career meant more to him than anyone ever could. Carlos loved the power, the money far too much to give it up for anyone. But his private life had plenty of room for Kai on the side. He was the spice in Carlos' otherwise mundane life. And he loved it that way. Carlos had never had an affair like this. Sure, he had been with plenty of women, most of whom were married themselves. But no woman ever touched him like this.
Carlos chuckled at his comment, but it was short-lived, because Kai dove in for another kiss. Carlos allowed it to linger this time, his tongue requesting access to his mouth. God, he loved this. If any reporter got wind of it, he would deny, deny, deny. But he loved it and wanted more. He wanted him here and now. And Carlos was a man who always got what he wanted, even if he had to be conniving to get it.

At first, he thought it wouldn't matter that they weren't ever going to have a future publicly. Kai understood the importance of Carlos' position and that someone like him could destroy it in an instant. He knew what he was. Even if he scoffed at anyone that judged him, he was well aware of the lifestyle he'd been involved in. It wasn't one he planned on giving up either. He was too caught up in it. There was no reason not to sell or to use. And giving up his addictions wasn't going to happen anytime soon. He didn't plan to make something more of himself. He lived in the moment, without his eyes on the future. It had been that way for a long time now and he didn't plan on changing. But, at the same time, there was a quiet part of him that wanted a little more than that. Whenever they were apart, he craved him a little more. This was so startlingly different from what he was used to, but he loved it.
Kai moaned into the kiss, opening his mouth in eager acceptance. His hands slipped from his shoulders, drawing down over his chest. He stayed in the kiss for a long moment, pulling away without putting much distance between them. His hands gripped the other man's shirt, as if to make sure he stayed close. "I'm this close to tearing your clothes off in this elevator." While it was said with a mischievous and playful air, Kai really wasn't sure how long he could wait. He wanted him now.

As far as Carlos knew, this wasn't anything more than a fling to Kai. If Carlos ever suspected that it meant something, then they wouldn't be here. He would put a stop to it. But Carlos had on a pair of rose-colored glasses. He was, for lack of a better word, naive. He thought that they were having fun and that was all that it was--for both of them. Carlos thought he was living in a perfect world. He never once suspected that Kai could ever want anything more than what they had. And if Kai gave out any sort of hints, he hadn't picked up on it. Carlos never was good at picking up on hints, anyway.
Carlos chuckled when he heard him. Smirking, he leaned in and kissed his collarbone. "So what's stopping you?" If he really wanted to tear his clothes off, then why wasn't he rid of it by now? Carlos knew that eventually, they would have to get off the elevator and get into their room. But for now, he didn't mind staying in the trapped elevator. He paid no mind to the notion that there were other people in this hotel who needed to use the elevator. The only people he thought about right now were the men in the elevator. And anyways, didn't the general population need more exercise, anyway? What they were doing was for the good of the health of the public, really.

At first, this was supposed to be nothing more than a fling. It was nothing more than an affair; just fun and games. It wasn't supposed to mean anything at all. Kai had been good at keeping sex as a pastime, rather than an emotional investment. He had flings all of the time. Hell, he had sex for money and didn't once catch himself falling for someone. But, this turned out to be different for him. He wasn't sure when it happened, though he caught himself caring. It was turning into something more to Kai and while he didn't expect it to happen, he didn't turn and run either. Maybe he should have, because it was obvious that nothing would come of this. They were too different and Kai was too much of a liability to ever be with. And yet, he caught himself falling for someone that was so far out of his league. This was what their relationship would consist of and he understood it. He understood it and didn't plan to let himself want more. Only, it was hard to really control how he felt.
He breathed out a sound of approval at the kiss on his collarbone. "If that's how you feel..." He grabbed a hold of the lapels to his suit coat and started to try to shove them off of his shoulders, ready to get him out of that, at least. It didn't matter that there were people who wanted the elevator. They would have to put their clothes back on to get out of the elevator, but he honestly wasn't thinking about that right now. He just wanted to get him out of those clothes. "Have I told you how fucking hot you are?"

Deep inside of him, part of Carlos was truly, unequivocally in love with Kai. It was the part of him that fell head over heels for Rosa when they were in college. It was the man who loved each and every one of his kids from the bottom of his heart and would do anything for them. Unfortunately, that Carlos was buried deep underground most of the time. Senator, politician Carlos took over. The man who made sacrifice after sacrifice to get where he was, and wasn't intending on stopping.
That was how this all got started. Carlos was an attorney before he ever got into politics. He was making a decent amount of money, and he was just waiting for his chance to enter politics. His chance came when he was helping a client sue a company that was a major supporter of political parties. And they happened to mention to him that if the lawsuit was lost, then they would find the extra money to back him up and run a campaign for senator. Carlos made the deal, and the man he took the bribe from was true to his word. And from there, it was a snowball effect. Carlos was suddenly willing to do anything it took to stay up on top. And that was when he started making sure his family would do what it took as well. And sure, maybe he crossed a line or two with Rosa, but he always thought that as long as he was in office, then it would be worth it and she would understand. Evidently he was wrong, because she ended up leaving and going to Toronto.
But that was water under the bridge. Senator Carlos couldn't care less about Rosa, and lover Carlos was trying hard to forget her, and with Kai, it was easy to do. Kai was the only person he could be around and truly not think about Rosa and what she might be doing. Because his mind, his heart was focused on one person right now. And that was the guy taking his jacket off. He smirked and raised his arms to help him and dropped the jacket on the floor by his feet. When he heard the question, he smirked. "Probably, but it's good to hear it. You really think that?" he looked in his eyes, a mischievous look on his face. "Why don't you show me how hot you think I am?" And knowing Kai, he would really do it, too.

Someone like Kai wasn't supposed to fall in love. It was unexpected. Kai had gone all of his adult life, bouncing from partner to partner. He didn't fall in love, however. He flirted and he met people that he slept with because he wanted to and thought nothing of it later. Given he also wasn't above sex for money, there was a portion that were strictly business and some that he mixed business and pleasure with. Then, there were people that he carried an almost-relationship with. But, he never took the next step because he'd never been in love. Even the guy that pulled him into this lifestyle, he wasn't in love with. He felt indebted to him more often than not, because he still supplied with him drugs and occasionally more ways to make money, but he didn't love him. So, what had changed when it came to Carlos? There was something different inside of him in this whole scenario. With Carlos, he fucking loved him. He didn't know why and he knew that it was the last thing he should have felt, but he also couldn't help it.
At the same time, there was nothing he could do about it either. This was a married man and not only that but a married politician. That would complicate it even more if he ever asked for more. He didn't plan to, but it didn't change that there was a side of him that wanted it. He was breaking his own rules where feelings were concerned and yet he didn't insist on shutting them off either. He liked this whole thing a little too much. It was like an addiction that he knew would lead to dangerous waters and it didn't stop him. Besides, he had plenty of dangerous addictions that this wasn't really different, was it? "Mmm. Why the hell would I lie?" He asked, and he wasn't. Though, he supposed someone like him would lie to someone else. But not in this situation. God no. He pretended to think about it, all the while letting his hands wander over the man's chest, and further down his abdomen. "I wasn't sure that I should inflate that ego of yours, but..." He leaned in, letting his lips brush just below his ear while one of his hands sought out Carlos' belt, already making quick work of unbuckling it and moving to the button of his pants.

"Hell if I know," he said with a chuckle when he asked if he would lie. His hands made his way down to the man's back and pulled him closer. Instinctively, his body pressed closer when he unbuckled his pants. Already, he was looking forward to this. As he watched him, he allowed his imagination to linger. After all, he didn't have to be home until tomorrow night--
"Is everything okay in there?"
Carlos froze, leaning his head against the wall with a groan. Heaving a sigh, he looked at Kai. "I could have the building evacuated, you know"
"I'm sorry?"
Clearing his throat, Carlos picked up his jacket. "yes, ma'am. We're fine."
"Is the elevator working in there?"
Carlos pressed the button and the elevator whirred to life. "It just started working again. Thank you."
"All right, have a good night."
Carlos rolled his eyes, thinking of a few choice words he would have liked to say to the faceless girl whose voice had interrupted them. Even if technically, it was his fault. He was annoyed. He didn't look at Kai; instead, he watched the numbers light up as they passed the floors. When they came to the twenty-first floor, it finally stopped. As the doors opened, he looked at the boy once more. "The suite will be more comfortable, anyways," he noted, a mischeivous grin spreading across his face. Already, he knew that he would be placing the DO NOT DISTURB notice on the door.

Kai paused in unfastening his pants when he heard the voice. Immediately his eyes went to the intercom, then back at Carlos. His hands left his pants and he chuckled quietly. "I think we can cope," he teased, although it was annoying to be interrupted. Sure, it made sense that they would check on the elevator, but it made it inconvenient and right now, Kai was all about convenience and wanting to get into the other man's pants. He looked up as the numbers ticked away and when it finally chimed to their floor, he looked at Carlos again, a smirk spreading across his face. It wasn't long now. While he would have gladly gotten started in that elevator, it wasn't as if they had to wait too long. The previous annoyance faded away at the prospect of getting into the suite. "We'll make up for the wait in there then." Any time lost, they could make up for as soon as they got in. And as the doors opened, Kai stepped into the corridor and towards the room. He was itching to get inside.
As soon as the door opened, he walked inside, hand searching for the light switch. It was beautiful inside, no doubt about it. And far more expensive than anything he could ever afford on his own. "You never settle do you?" Not that he was complaining. Instead, he pulled off his own jacket, slung it over a chair before he walked over to the bed and plopped down on it. "God damn. You should come over here," as if he wasn't going to. He patted the bed, grinning at him with both mischief and an invite. God, he wanted him. Kai was sure there wasn't anything that he wanted more right now.

Carlos could only imagine the reaction if his campaign manager knew about Kai. He'd probably get a long lecture about how she worked so hard and he was going to ruin it. But was he really? Carlos thought he had it under control. The only way this could really hurt him was if his opponent found out. And there was no way that was going to happen. He was a dinosaur who barely noticed what the President doing, let alone people he was supposed to be up against. Carlos was sure that he had this election in the bag. And after a second term as senator, he would be running for governor. That was the plan. Nothing could stop the plan. And something so menial as a flame with a Toronto druggie was never going to harm him, because he wouldn't let it. And if things ever got close to coming out, he could drop Kai and shut him up quick. If money didn't do it, the guy could be put in jail. Whatever it would take.
He nearly dropped the do not disturb placard as he rushed to get inside. Once it was on the doorknob, he closed the door behind him. When he heard him, he chuckled. "Never. Why should I?" He saw no reason to settle. He liked his high-class hotels and fine dining. He didn't go over to him when he told him to. Instead, he went to the fridge and pulled out a bottle of wine. "Don't be so impatient." Even though, he had been highly impatient back there in the elevator. Now that they were in here, though, it was completely different. He popped the cork in the bottle and filled two glasses with the four-hundred-dollar liquid. Sniffing it, he shook the glass a little before slowly tasting it. Exhaling, he held out the glass to the younger man. "Nothin like a good bottle of wine."
