Grace walked into Starbucks after a long night's work. The worst thing about being new again was having to work the ugly hours. It was 8 A.M, and while most people were just now getting up, Grace Yorke was ready to go to bed.
Yawning, she walked to the counter, still fully dressed. She hadn't changed out of her uniform like she usually did. Tonight was just too rough.
"I want a tall mocha no fat double latte" she told the kid behind the register. Once she got it, she grabbed a pastry, paid, and went to a table.
Unstrapping her gun holster, she laid it on the table and rubbed her eyes, taking a sip of her coffee

Chance figured the day was going to spent exploring Toronto and trying to contact old friends. He did have a lot of them from the area and figured he'd try to catch up with a few if they were around. It'd been a while. It was still early in the morning, so he knew most people weren't even up yet, or were just starting to rise. Chance, on the other hand didn't feel nearly as early as it was. Maybe his body was still getting used to a time zone that he hadn't experienced in months. To him, it was mid-afternoon. Walking into Starbucks, he meant to approach the counter, but was caught off guard by a familiar face. Was that--? He hadn't seen her in years, but there was no doubt about it. A slow smile appeared on his face. She'd changed quite a bit, but then again, he probably had too.
"Grace?" He questioned, just to make sure. From experience, he found out it was incredibly embarrassing to approach someone thinking they were someone they weren't. While it might have sounded like an easy mistake not to make, you'd be surprised at the amount of people out there that looked the same. So, it had only been once, but better safe than sorry really. In all honesty, he was pretty positive that it was her.

Grace looked up sleepily "yeah?" she asked, looking up at the boy. He looked familiar....really familiar. As she sat there staring at him, she imagined him with acne, glasses and braces and her jaw dropped as she realized who he was.
"Chance??" she looked him up and down. He had definitely changed! He had turned out to be very handsome indeed. Of course, Grace didn't want to just say that. She was stunned, though. The last time she saw him, she wouldn't even give him the time of day. Now...she definitely wished she did.

When she recognized him, Chance had the confirmation he needed. "That's me," He grinned. It was nice to see a familiar face, although obviously a tired one. "Long night?" He inquired and used a gesture of his head to nod to the gun on the table. So, she'd become a cop. That was a little interesting to him, given that it was probably the last thing he expected the last time he saw her. It was interesting to see how people turned out after so long. Although, Chance would have to admit that he'd be much happier to watch people change than to see them once every few years and barely know them when he saw them again.
"It's been like-- Forever." It sure felt that way anyway. All of Toronto turned foreign to him. Despite it being home, he felt like he'd been gone for too long. It wouldn't take long to be back in the swing of it though. If there was one thing he was good at, it was adapting. And this was where he'd wanted to be for quite a while.

Grace smiled "yeah, having to overpower a dude twice my size like five times throughouit the night can be kinda tiring" she said, wiggling her nose as she smirked
Forever seemed like an overstatement to Grace "you're telling me! Come...sit down, Let me get you a coffee or somethin"

"Yeah?" He chuckled, "I wouldn't know." Well, he imagined that'd be tiring after a while. He hadn't overpowered anyone that was twice his size before. Although, the necessity never came into play either. It wasn't exactly in his job description to overpower anyone. Everything he did could pretty well be done with coordination and his mind. Law enforcement never appealed much to him, except for from a legal standpoint and a forensic one. That was interesting and he understood it, but if he had to take someone down, it just wouldn't be happening.
He took a seat in front of her, "I can't believe it's you-- And a cop. I don't think that's what you were last time I saw you." He said, grinning a little. It was pretty surprising to see a familiar face. While he knew he might come across someone, it was nice to see Grace again and seeing that she was obviously someone successful was pretty comforting. Both of them were rather young and a lot of people that he came across around his age group were more into having fun or finding their way. Chance figured he already found his.

"yeah, I don't think anyone believed that I could do it. Well, except for my dad" but, that was Jay for ya! But Grace understood what he meant. The last time he saw her, she was drinking and doing drugs and earning lots of bracelets in the van. She was also getting into lots of trouble. Shrugging, she said "I've screwed up a couple times. But I think I'm ok now"

"That's great though," Chance couldn't have guessed that's where she'd wind up. He never had anything against Grace; they were just two very different people. She was a troublemaker and Chance never touched that crowd. It was a pleasant surprise though. Personally, Chance thought he lacked all surprising attributes. He turned out basically like people thought he would. He succeeded, but no one had ever doubted him. Sure, some of his interests surprised people at times, but he was a person-- Full of depth and less black and white attributes. Basically, however, he didn't see himself as daring or full of big time shockers. It wasn't bad and hopefully not as boring as he figured sometimes.
"Well, you're only human. Everyone screws up sometimes." And if they didn't, they were robots; simply put. Even he screwed up more than enough times. It was the way of the world. "It's great to see you again, it really is." He couldn't get over that it was really her. Honestly, he was pretty happy for her. It was nice to see that she'd done well for herself.

Grace smiled flirtatiously...she couldn't help it! "Well, what about you? I'm not the only one who's changed, mister" she said. While She had changed her personality ever so slightly, his looks had changed completely. Grace couldn't get her mind off of how hot he looked!

Of course, Chance noticed his change of appearance over the past few years. He grew out of his awkward stage. His height boosted and lost that teenage thin awkwardness where he was all limbs. His face cleared up, and he learned how to keep his hair from being a curly mop on the top of his head, the boy's skin cleared up and when the braces were finally removed, his teeth were definitely better for it. Who could argue with perfectly straight teeth? Though, he didn't really think that was what she was referring to him. For Chance that type of thing had never mattered as a kid. He was more focused on his studying and it wasn't as if anyone bothered him about it anyway. Chance really lucked out for the most part.
"I guess we both did some growing up." He replied, grinning back at her. Honestly, she looked pretty good herself. While she never had lacked looks, he couldn't help but find her better than before now. The bad girl thing never appealed much to him. And now that she was older, it seemed a closer fit. Of course, he didn't want to say out loud that he was thinking about her looks. Talk about awkward.

Grace grinned "we sure did. Now. I promised you a coffee. Let's take a walk to the counter" she said with a giggle. The thing with hanging around jackasses in the ravine during her high school years, she had never been around a good guy. Except for her daddy, but he didn't count. Not really. So she never assumed anything. Grace was one girl who never minded paying anyways. So she stood up and looked back at the guy
"How long are you back for?" she questioned. Her mind was fixed on one thing, and when Grace Yorke wanted something, nothing was going to get in her way.

Forever
Maybe not forever, but it was the first time in a long time that he didn't want his time there to be short. He wanted it to be extended. He wasn't ready to go back out yet. Of course, he knew eventually he'd probably leave again. As she reminded him of the coffee, he smiled and stood up from the seat. On the way to the counter, he shrugged. "For a while. I feel like being home, you know?" He asked, unsure if she knew what that was like at all. She was still in Toronto and he wasn't sure if she ever left for any extended period of time. But, Chance had been in and out of Toronto for a long time.
It was possible that he'd see a lot more of the people he used to know. He was having fun talking to Grace, even though they hadn't been so close in the past. It was nice to catch up. While he had plenty of friends elsewhere, he wanted someone from his past and something familiar.

Grace nodded "definitely. I went to BC for Police Academy and I couldn't wait to get home" she said with a smile "so, since you're here for a while, how about we go out tonight? I know a salsa club that's pretty great. Unless you don't think you can handle me" she said with a smirk. A boy like that should have no problem accepting challenges, right?

There wasn't a challenge that Chance couldn't take. Of course, he'd been a lot of places before and experienced plenty of things, but he'd never actually been to a Salsa club before. That was new to him, but when she posed the challenge, the dark-eyed boy grinned. "Oh, I can take you. I promise you that," He replied, not about to back down from it. "Never been to one before, but there's a first time for everything." And maybe it was exactly what he needed. It'd been a long time since he went out with the soul aspiration to have a good time. He needed to see fun from that side again. And maybe it was even better to be with someone he was familiar with. Not only that, but someone he could understand a little bit.
Fun had never been the top priority in Chance's life. While it wasn't safe to say that he didn't have fun, it wasn't something that he indulged in more often than work or school. The important aspects of his life always came first. It'd been that way for as long as he could remember. However, he knew how to let go of it all and when he returned to Toronto, that was really what he planned to do. It was just hard with his train wreck of a family.

Grace smiled sexily "great. So you really have two choices. You can either pick me up at my dad's house at 8, orrr you can just not leave me at all" she said with a giggle. She personally liked the second option better. As much as Jay wasn't around a whole lot, she didn't want to take a chance. Jay tended to scare off guys, and this was one guy she didn't want to be scared
