He wasn't having the best of days. Those fucked up locker checks. Shouldn't they be looking for weapons or something? Who cared if he had a few articles of Playboy magazine? He didn't think it was important. The investigation was important. They needed to stay focused. So they could figure out that it was Jack. They had to figure it out. Now that he was dating Megan, he was extra protective of her. Then of course, there was Bekah to look after, and his mom that he had to make sure was never harmed again. The more time went by without Jack getting arrested, the more nervous JJ got. So when Snyder gave him in school suspension for the porn Grace found in his locker, JJ nearly went off on him. Didn't he know he was being petty?
JJ figured that with his mom in the hospital, it was up to him to take care of things while his dad was at work. With her car missing, he had gone with Johnny and rented a van. That was what he drove lately. He had picked up the quads from the daycare and picked up tacos for dinner for everyone. He had gone home, and instantly realized that Bekah wasn't there because she didn't greet him when he walked through the door. He asked everyone who was at home. Nobody had seen her. She hadn't made it home from school. He knew it was Ian's turn to watch her. JJ memorized the Bekah chart. So, he called Ian. And for a few minutes, he could have sworn his heart came to a complete stop. She was missing.
Garrett had been called. JJ wasn't planning on wasting time. Jack had his girl. And he was going to get her back alive. It took an hour and a half. The detectives had left. he had been told to let them find her. Like he would. This was Rebekah they were tallking about. So, once they were gone, he banged on the bedroom doors. ''Up and at em, people! Cassie! Shanna! Kristofer! Courtney! Jenna! Let's move it! We gotta find Rebekah!''

Courtney was still adjusting to having a home, a family. She hadn’t had anything is such a long time. She never knew her real parents. Her father had left her mother before Courtney had even been born. And her mother? She just did not know how to be a mother. Maybe because her own mother was never one to her. Courtney’s mom had been an alcoholic, ever since she was a teenager. She had been in and out of rehab for years. In fact, she was in rehab when she had her child. For a while, her mother seemed better, not drinking like she was. Yeah, that lasted maybe three months before she started drinking again. She would end up back in rehab with her daughter in social services and then she would get better again. Everything changed when Courtney was two years old. Her mother was drunk and driving, her child in the back seat when she had gotten into an accident. Her mother was in a coma. And the doctor’s said that it was a miracle that the two year old even survived. Social services took the child after she was discharged from the hospital. She never even got to say bye to her mommy. She was only two. She did not understand what was going on.
The child had been in and out of foster homes for years. No one ever seemed to want to adopt her and that made the child feel as though there were something wrong with her to make no one want to adopt her. She started believing in that after a while. She was teased and bullied by kids at school and the other kids in the group home and in the foster homes that she was sent to if they had other children. Courtney grew sick of feeling like a freak. On her fourteenth birthday, she ran away from the home she was in. She had been hiding, running from anyone who might be looking for her, living on the streets for over a year. She knew how to take care of herself. She did not know how to let others take care of her.
Now she was living in a new house after Larisa found her hiding in her yard. She was scared and worried. And she could not stop wondering why anyone would take in a child they did not even know. She was rather shy and sweet. She never argued or raised her voice. She went to school, did her homework. She was actually in her room right now, working on homework. She always tried to get it out of the way before doing anything else. Courtney never waited until the last minute. And in the middle of working on her math homework, she suddenly heard someone calling all of their names. And when she heard a knock, jumped. She had always been a little jumpy, especially after spending a year living on the streets all alone. Putting down her pencil, she walked out of the room in black short shorts and a white tank top and looked towards JJ. “Uhm-what-what’s going on?” she asked, shyly, nervously.

Being a mother just was not an easy thing to do. There were those rare times when she just felt all alone in this. Sure, it was great to have some help, to actually have a family now. But she was a teen mother. A single teen mother. At times, Cassie felt completely abandoned. It was not that she did not want Kristen or wished that her daughter had never been born. She really did love her daughter. It’s just that Cassandra wished that she had been born later. It just did not seem fair. The day that she had found out that she had been pregnant, her entire life changed. And Gavin only made things worse. He didn’t want anything to do with her or with their child. She was so stupid to let him do this to her. But it was too late to change anything now. What was done was done.
Her life did not make sense anymore. Her life was not suppose to turn out this way. Nobody in that house could possibly understand what it was like to be a single teen parent, raising your child completely on your own. So many times, Cassie thought about abandoning her child, leaving town, never looking back. Quite a few times, she had even packed a bag and started out the door. But then she would hear that cry. Her child, her baby. And she could not go through with leaving.
And then she heard it. JJ's voice. Something was wrong. That much was obvious to Cassandra. She had been in her room, laying down in her bed, cuddling with her baby girl. And suddenly her motherly instincts began to kick in. Carefully, Cass climbed out of bed and put Kristen in her crib and tucked her into bed. And then she rushed out into the hallway. "What's wrong? Something is wrong. I can tell."

A week. A whole freaking week. She was sure that she would have been out of here by now. So sure of it. She did not want a family. She did not need a family. She never did, never would. She could take care of herself just fine. So what if she was just fourteen years old. That did not mean anything. Not really. Shanna did not want to stay here. She wanted to get the hell out of there. Especially now. After she had recieved this strange messege. She needed to get out of Toronto. There had to be some way. Right?
Shanna had to get out of here. She did not want to be bothered. These people were losers, anyway. And when she heard JJ, she just rolled her eyes. It was not like he was her brother. He was no one to her. She did not have to listen. She did not have to listen to anyone! She opened the door, her eyes narrowed on the older boy. "God, shut up!" she hissed. "Just leave me alone. 'Kay?" And with that, she slammed the bedroom door shut and walked over to her bed.

Two weeks. A lot could happen in two weeks, as Kristofer was finding out. It had been two weeks since he had run into Larisa, a stolen purse in his hands. It still perplexed him. Why would she pretend to be his mother and then take him home? This house wasn't very big and they had several children. So why add him to the list? He was put in a room with Connor. He had never had this much comfort before. And he was doing his best to earn his keep. When Shanna came, and then Rebekah, he did his very best to not get in the way.
When JJ came in the house asking about the little girl, he had innocently shrugged. He didn't know where she was. And when JJ called the cops, he had retreated. He and police did not blend well. He waited until JJ called them and stepped out in the hallway. He looked at Courtnay and then Cassie and spoke up as Shanna was yelling at JJ. "It's Rebekah."

She was so thankful that she did not have to share a room with that psycho. Jenna didn't think she could survive a night with her. It was hard to explain her fear of Shanna. Thankfully, nobody asked. She was content to share a room with Courtney. The two girls got along famously. Jenna hoped they would wind up adopting her. Of course, she adored the little girl as well. It was just that she was giving her some much needed space. Actually, Jenna needed some space as well. After all, she wasn't used to having her entire life turned upside down the way it had been these last few weeks.
Jenna had been up on the roof, with headphones in her ears, drowning out the entire world with her favorite songs. She had been doing that a lot lately, not that anybody noticed. How could they? Her mom was in the hospital, her dad had work, Grace had the sniper cases, her big brother was getting ready for graduation and taking care of Rebekah, her best friend barely spoke to her, and poor Cassie was going out of her mind with her new baby. So, really, it was impossible to be noticed by anyone who could possibly care about her.
Jenna was lost in her own little world, feeling sorry for herself. It was only because there was a couple of seconds of silence between songs that she had even heard the car door close. Looking down, Jenna wondered why the police had been to their house. Part of her expected JJ to be in trouble. But deep inside her, there was a little voice that told her that something was seriously wrong. Within seconds, she went back inside, just in time to see Shanna slam the door in JJ's face. With a scoff, she muttered " psycho." Of course, she did not have courage to say that to her face. Seeing the look on her brothers face, however, gave away that her instincts had been right. Turning to Cassie, Jenna posed the same question that's the others had.

JJ was fearless right now. There was a high chance he was going to have to face Jack. He was already mentally preparing for what very well could be his last day on earth. So if this little fourteen year old girl thought that she could scare him, she could never have been more wrong. For the moment, he ignored the others. They would soon find out what this was all about. Instead of answering that question, he opened the door that she had slammed and walked right up to her. " you think you're scary? You're a baby. A selfish little baby. And up until now, my mom has been giving in to everything you've ever wanted. Well guess what. My mom's not here. You wanna leave so badly? Fine. Go. I'll help you. But you are going to help us find Bekah. Because if you don't, and she dies, I'm taking it out on you. And unlike you, little girl, I don't make threats. That's a promise."
Up until now, JJ had not said a single mean thing to this girl. Unlike Jenna, he actually liked her. He loved having her in the house. From the day she was brought home, he thought she was entertaining. When she threatened him, he had laughed and winked at her. He thought she was adorable. But now, when they had a missing child, it wasn't cute or funny. And he was letting her know that this was where he drew the line.
