Why did he ever agree to this?
As Sylar walked alongside Elle, he wondered this. The company...it wasn't all that it was cracked up to be. But his mother....he hadn't known until recently that he had been adopted. He thought he could forget everything that he had done to his mother. He had never meant to kill her. All he had wanted to do was show her what he could do. Since the solar eclipse, he had been finding that he had strange abilities. He could tell how something worked, and he could control it. It was like clocks. Just by looking at it, he knew exactly how it worked, or, in some cases, why it didn't. He had always been good with clocks and watches. But after the eclipse, it was like he could suddenly do the same with humans. Not just humans, either. Everything. He could look at them and tell how they work. He could take them apart with a motion of his hands. So when he found out that there were others like him, and actually got around one of them, he knew. It was in their brain. These people had a special part of their brain that other people do not have. It was genetic. All the eclipse really did was wake it up. So when he came across a man who had committed suicide, because of his ability (or at least, that was what the note said), Sylar realized, upon studying the man, that the ability was still alive. So, opening the man's skull, he removed it and inserted it in himself.
Suddenly, he could shape water. Now, that was cool. So when he went and visited his mother, he formed an ice sculpture for her. He thought she would appreciate it. Instead, the older woman called him a monster, even pulled out a butcher knife on him. He didn't want anyone hurt. He wanted her to see that he was still her son, her Gabriel. So, he pulled her into his arms, hugging her. The knife went right into her stomach, and it wasn't long before she died. That was the day that Gabriel died. That was the day that he became Sylar. After taking one life, it was so easy to do it again, especially people he didn't know. It wasn't like he was just killing randomly, either. Actually, murder wasn't even his main ambition. All he wanted was power. He was taking abilities from people. But because he had to remove the tops of their heads to do it, they died. Except Claire Bennett. That girl couldn't die. He was just trying to get more and more powerful. By now he had telekinesis, he had intensified hearing, he even had the power to emit radiation. And that was just a few. He was becoming as powerful as he wanted. But what he wanted the most was to never die. And that was what sent him after Claire. But, when he learned that he had been adopted, his mission suddenly changed.
Part of him wanted to make his birth mother happy. But by doing so, he felt trapped. He was reduced to this pathetic little boy, taking orders and going on missions that mommy dearest sent him on. So why was he doing this? And then he heard it. Sylar stopped walking as he listened in. She was being asked when she would tell him the truth. She said don't be ridiculous. Gabriel never needs to know that I'm not his mother. As soon as he heard that, his eyes narrowed. And as one of the agents approached him, he sent a surge of radiation out, killing him instantly. He was done. And their little plan? It was about to be foiled. Wolfram and Hart, he knew, was their new set of buddies. Well, Wolfram and Hart was in for a big surprise. He didn't care that it was run by a new set of guys. He didn't care if an ensoulled vampire ran it now. No, he was out to destroy everything that the Company had worked with. And whether or not Angel and his crew knew what the partners were doing was a nonissue. He didn't care. He was done playing fair, done playing safe.
As he entered the building and got on the elevator, he already could sense where he needed to be. And as he got off on the right floor, he looked at the blonde receptionist. Vampire. He studied her for just a moment. She didn't have a soul, either. Sylar's head tilted. He wondered what she was doing here, if they were supposed to be under the guise of doing good. He approached her, smirking. "For an undead, you look absolutely beautiful," he stated, leaning against the counter. Oh, he would get to the others. But first, he wanted to start with her. She seemed like she would make for a fun toy.
