Overall Personality: Quinn is the type of guy who holds grudges and doesn’t forgive easily. He feels like since his life kind of dealt him a bad hand, those who don’t have to live with a fake heart should be grateful and make no mistakes. It’s hard for him to forgive someone for lying or doing something to him. Usually, unless it’s family, forgiveness doesn’t happen. He has given up on several friendships over really what were minor issues. It’s different with family, just because his father has given him countless lectures on blood being thicker than water. Even when he does forgive, though, he resents and holds grudges and keeps an eye open for an opportunity for revenge.
Quinn tends to wallow in self-pity. He’s always complaining any time someone takes two seconds to listen to him. on his good days, though, he can be fun to be around. He likes teaching little facts about the things he knows—comics, cartoons, etc. When he’s in his world of Fantasy, he is a great kid. His problem lies in the fact that he has very little confidence in himself. He is definitely a pessimist. Get past all that, though, and he might actually surprise you.

Background: Quinn was born the middle child, just six minutes before his younger twin, Preston. The children seemed to be happy, but for some reason, Quinn was blue. It concerned the parents, but the doctors never said anything about it, so his parents thought maybe it was just a glitch. As the weeks went by, though, and Quinn started getting sick, he was taken back to the doctor who delivered them. It was then that they were informed that Quinn’s heart was in the wrong side of his chest. The doctor informed the parents that they knew when he was born, but didn’t feel like they were ready to know. Furious, they took him to another doctor, who said that for now, he seemed like he would be ok, to take him home and see what happens.
That was what they did. Quinn was taken home, and for the next couple of years, everything was fine. It was when the children’s mother started ruining Desiree’s toys that the family’s life started to fall apart. The twins were two years old the first time that Desiree got in trouble and her doll was burned. They were playing in the hallway when they heard the crying and screaming. Quinn stood between the open door and the wall, watching through the space between the hinges.
Quinn was silent. The toddler was scared that if he told, he would get in trouble, too. So he stayed quiet. And as the months dragged on, two-year old Quinn learned to pick up on the signs when it would happen again. And when he picked up on them he went and hid with Preston underneath their parents’ bed. When she locked Desiree in the closet, though, they decided it was a good idea to try to go to their grandma’s house. They made it down the street, at the end of the block when they were picked up by one of their neighbors. They stayed there until after their daddy had gotten home and picked them up.
But then things settled down. For a while anyways. Until the twins were three years old. Quinn and Preston were already asleep when their daddy came home. They were woken up, told to help daddy fill a duffel bag with their clothes and toys. Quinn cared more about his action figures than about his clothes, and set to work emptying the contents of his toy box into the bag. Within a few minutes, the boys and Desi were in the car, with one suitcase each, and they were on their way to Chicago.
It wasn’t long after their move that Quinn’s heart complications started up. He was put in the hospital and they started up the surgeries. They needed to move veins around and repair them. It seemed to help for a while, until he had a heart attack. They tried to help him, but there were cracks in the heart. They would have to give him a transplant. He was taken by helicopter to another city. The small boy was hooked up to machines. He cried the entire time, scared of the height.
Over the next year, he had countless heart attacks, and received four transplants. Finally, the hospital doctor called his dad out of the room. Quinn could overhear them talking about contacting a foundation. He heard his daddy panic. His father yelled something about not giving up. And for the first and only time, he left without another word to Quinn. The young boy wasn’t sure what was going on. Nobody would tell him. They simply said he would understand when he was older. As he turned six years old, they came in and said they had to transport him again. He was going to New York.
In New York, Quinn underwent yet another surgery. The doctor removed his heart and inserted an artificial one instead. He would have to avoid excessive physical exercise, which meant that he would be getting out of years’ worth of PE when he was older. But, after three months of making sure it was going to be accepted by his body, he was finally allowed to go home. Finally, he was reunited with his sister and twin brother. Just in time to start home-schooling in first grade.
Their life was pretty good for a while. Quinn was finally healthy and happy. Their father took a night job so he could home-school them. The only thing they were really missing was a mother. Quinn often asked his daddy if they were ever going to have a new mommy. So when their dad started dating Penelope, the child was thrilled. Penelope was everything they could ask for. She was sweet, she knew how to treat the kids, and she seemed to love their dad. So Quinn didn’t understand it when Desiree claimed that the woman hurt her. She made it so Penelope went to jail. And even after the cops found out the truth, they never saw her again.
They did some more moving around after that. They crossed the border into Canada, and moved to first New Brunswick and then London. It was in London that Quinn decided he wanted to find his mother. He managed to find her, after doing thorough research on the internet. The two emailed back and forth, without his father or siblings ever knowing. After a while, the idea came up for them to meet. It seemed like a dream come true to the boy. But the following day, she called the house, when he hadn’t even given the number. He picked it up, and the way she spoke scared him. So, the boy never went. And something told him that if he did, he might not come back.
When they moved to Toronto, Quinn finally felt safe. He deleted the email he had used to contact his mother and created a new one. When at first he went to school, he was bullied so bad that Quinn was afraid to go to school. So, his dad pulled him out of that school and put him in Lakehurst. His siblings still go to Degrassi, however. So, he is in a new school without his brother and sister. And so far, he hasn’t made very many friends. However, he does have his eye on one young lady in mind—Ashleigh Simpson
