Overall Personality: Since she was really little, Angela has always been a people pleaser. Even if she doesn’t want to do something, she will do it just because someone else wants her to. She will spend all of her money on someone trying to make them happy. Angela has never had a whole lot of friends, despite all of her efforts. And even now, at twenty-nine, she will go to extreme lengths to make friends. She has little confidence in herself, so she does whatever it takes to earn friendships, rather than just being herself.
Angela has always been one who craves attention. Ever since her brother was diagnosed as being Bipolar, she has had to take a back seat in her father’s life. First it was with Craig, and then it was when Gina came around, and then, when she thought it was finally going to be her turn, the babies came around. Angela was considered to be the “Good Child”, but in reality, she made plenty of mistakes. They were just never caught because her dad was always busy with one of her many siblings. Because she knows she can’t get attention from her dad, she tends to go to quite dangerous lengths to get attention elsewhere.
Angela also has quite the jealous streak in her. She has been known to play some dangerous pranks on people when she felt like they were soaking up attention that she needed or deserved, whether it be positive or negative. She can sometimes act like a spoiled brat, and she is pretty immature, despite being almost thirty. The root of it has always been wanting someone to pay attention to her. That’s really all she has ever wanted. Despite having so many siblings, Angela is a very lonely person.

Background: Angela Jeremiah was born on a cold, November evening. She was the pride and joy to her father, Joey Jeremiah, as she was his first child (that he knew of). She had an older brother, Craig, who was ten when she was born. In the first four years of her childhood, the two were the best of friends. At least, when Craig went to their house to visit. When she was four, though, her little world came to a complete halt, as it was shattered at the death of her mother. All of a sudden, her brother was no longer coming around. Angela was too little to understand the politics of step-families. For the next year, the only one she was really around besides her father was her babysitter, Emma.
When she was five, though, Craig came to her school to see her. She ran to him, excited to see her older brother. He took a picture of her, and she took the camera from him, insisting on taking a picture of him. She was called back inside by her teacher, who asked her who he was. She immediately beamed and answered “My brother!”
Her brother came around again when the Jeremiahs and Nelsons were having a cookout. Angela was excited to see him. Emma spoke up and said she invited him when her dad asked. He didn’t seem too happy to see Craig like she was, though. And after he pulled Craig aside and talked to him for a few minutes, Craig left. The five year old didn’t understand why. When she asked her dad later on that evening, he told her it was grown-up stuff and not to worry. She would see her brother again soon.
Soon came around the next day, when Craig showed up with Emma to pick Angie up after school. She was excited and wanted nothing more than to go to the park. When she asked, though, Emma said she didn’t know. She had a lot of homework to do. Craig spoke up, though and said he could take her, coaxing Angela to say please, Emma! Angie did so, tilting her head with an angelic smile. And with a sigh, Emma gave the two permission, telling Craig what time to have her back by.
So off they went, playing in the park. Until Angela tried to tickle Craig’s stomach and saw a giant bruise, all purple. Shocked and taken aback, Angela’s eyes widened and she asked “what IS that?” Craig told her that a dinosaur bit him. He then asked her if she remembered British Columbia. Angela shook her head, confused. Craig explained that she was just a baby, but that they went with their mother. Angela said again that she didn’t remember. Craig then took out a wad of money. Angela eyed it and asked him if it was a million dollars. He said it was a lot. It wasn’t a million dollars, but it was enough to get them there, and that it was where dinosaurs couldn’t get to them. He took her hand and said let’s go, taking her to get some ice cream, planning on going on the train afterwards.
As she received her ice cream cone, though, her dad arrived. He told her it was time to go and took her hand. As they started to walk away, though, Angela decided she wanted her father to go with them. So, she turned to Craig and asked if he could. Joey asked where they were going. She said on the train and that Craig had a million dollars in his pocket. Craig said it was just pretend, which confused little Angie even more. So, rushing to her brother, she tried to pull his money out, telling him “No, show him the money! We’re going to British Columbia!”
This upset her father, and he picked her up, telling Craig to stay away from her, like his dad said. Craig said he couldn’t do that, and he pointed to him and yelled that he meant it. That scared Angela. Her dad rarely yelled. She stayed quiet on the way home, and when they got there, she went right to her homework. She didn’t want to upset him more. Angela wasn’t too sure what had happened back there, but she was pretty sure it was her fault.
Both Angela and her father stayed pretty quiet, until Emma and an older boy came in, talking about how Craig ran away. Angela watched, silently, as her dad told them to go to Craig’s dad. Emma said that he was the problem, and the boy said he beats him. Angela bit her lip, looking down at her homework as she heard her dad defending the other man. That was when the five year old spoke up. She asked if something was wrong with Craig. Her dad said no, and looking up at him, she said “I saw today.”
Her dad wasn’t listening. He said he knew that she saw Craig that day. Angela had to make him understand. The five year old knew a lot better than they thought she did about what happened. “No,” she corrected her father “I saw. All purple,” she rubbed the area on her own body where she had seen the bruises. “A dinosaur bit him there.” Finally, her dad understood. He asked Emma to stay with Angie, and left with the boy.
When Emma left, Angie asked her babysitter if her brother would be ok. Dinosaurs were big, she explained to Emma. She saw a movie where they ate people. The older girl hugged her, and promised her that no dinosaur was going to eat her brother. That Angie’s father would take care of it, and that he was a brave, brave man. Like a knight. She suggested Angie take a small nap and promised her that when she woke up, everything would be better.
Emma was right. When Angela woke up, Craig was there. Her daddy explained to her that Craig would be living with them from then on. Of course, this made the girl happy. She had missed her brother! And now, she would get to spend all of her time with him! To her, it was the perfect fairy tale ending.
As the years went by, Angela didn’t have a whole lot of friends her own age. Part of the reason was because she wasn’t honest with them. From the moment she started kindergarten, Angie didn’t want anyone to know that her mom had passed. Her teachers knew, but that was different. The young child felt isolated because her mommy was dead and all the other kids had both parents. When she was five, the answer was always that her mommy was the President of the United States. Of course, that was a lie easily detected and it made the kids not want anything to do with her.
But it was important for Angie to not admit that her mother was gone. Because the child didn’t want to ever think that her mother could be replaced. When her dad started dating Sydney when she was six, that’s what it felt like. Angela never liked the woman. It felt like she was not only trying to take her place, but she was trying to take her daddy away from her. She refused to get close to her, staying as isolated from her as she could.
When Caitlin came around, it was a different story. For some reason, she felt very comfortable around the blond woman. The two were more like friends than anything. So, when her daddy took her and Craig and said they had to catch Caitlin at the airport, she was glad. Sydney was gone, and her favorite grown-up lady was there.
Of course, things weren’t always peaches and cream with the two. When Angela accused her dad of being old and no fun, her dad hurt his back trying to prove otherwise, announcing himself as a Fun Machine. When that happened, it was up to Caitlin to take care of the house. Up until then, the child had been spoiled by Caitlin. So when Caitlin was making breakfast that first morning, Angela tried to demand pancakes. It wound up making a huge mess in the kitchen, and her dad was not too happy with her. He told her afterwards to be nice to Caitlin or else. Angela apologized to Caitlin afterwards, hugging the woman and asking her to please stay. Caitlin assured her that she wasn’t going anywhere.
Having Caitlin around wound up being the best thing for her. When Angela was seven, coming up on the tail end of her second grade, she was cornered in the classroom at the end of the day by a couple of bullies. After everyone else had gone, including the teacher, the girls that had cornered her demanded to know the truth about her mom. Angela told them the story that she had been sticking to that year. Her mom was in space. The girls called her as liar and beat her up. Caitlin, who had arrived to pick her up, saved her from the four girls. She helped Angie get cleaned up, and didn’t even make her tell her dad.
Angela wanted Caitlin to stay forever. Especially when things got scary with Craig. Angela hated seeing her brother beat her dad up, and having to worry about where her brother was when it turned out he never went to London like he was supposed to. To a seven year old, it was completely shocking and it made her scared of Craig for a while. When she found out that her dad was going to marry Caitlin, Angie couldn’t be more thrilled. But when Caitlin broke it off and left, Angela came to the conclusion that she wasn’t the only one scared of Craig. And while she never said it, she always blamed Caitlin’s leaving on Craig going crazy.
The next school day after Caitlin left, Angela went up to the girls who had cornered her before. She told them that if they really wanted to know what had happened to her mom, to meet her in the bathroom where there were no teachers. The girls followed her instructions, and she told them that her brother had gone Bipolar and killed her mom. One of the girls asked what Bipolar was, and she told her it meant CRAZY. She then added that if they told anyone, her CRAZY brother was going to get them, too.
From then on, she had no problems at school. Anytime someone even started to be a bully, she would threaten to send her CRAZY brother after them. She never said who her brother was. Never even gave a name. So when Craig went on tour when she was eight, she told everyone that her CRAZY brother got caught and sent away. Craig never knew the things she was saying, and neither did her dad. Ever since the incident where Craig beat up her dad, Angela hadn’t really spent time with him. Not that Craig ever wanted to. He was too busy with his band and girlfriends.
Life stayed that way until one summer, the Jeremiah household changed, when a teenager named Gina came around. Suddenly, Angela had an older sister as well as an older brother. Suddenly, her dad went from dividing his attention between Craig and Angela to paying absolutely no attention to Ang at all. And if she was asked, she never liked her. Angela always resented her for showing up. Angela had been the only girl in her daddy’s life. She wasn’t prepared or ready to share.
Angela was almost twelve when her dad went on tour with Craig. The tour wound up lasting over ten months, running right through her birthday. Angela was hurt and angry. Gina didn’t even celebrate it with her, but at that point Angela had nothing but pure hatred for the older girl. Gina had taken off for the weekend, with Marco and a few other friends, leaving the girl all alone. Angela was self-sufficient enough, until a thunderstorm hit. Even just a year away from being a teenager, she was terrified of thunderstorms. And when the electricity went out, Angela left the house and went looking for Emma. After all, she was the only person Angela trusted at that point.
She never made it to Emma’s house. As she went through the alley on the way to the Simpson-Nelson house, she was approached by a car. A man and woman called her name out. They were in a car. Angela had never seen them before, but they knew her name. She stood there, unsure what to do. She had been warned about strangers, sure, but her father had never covered strangers that knew who she was. So Angela stood in the rain, looking back and forth between the car and the alleyway behind her.
All of a sudden, she was grabbed. The man picked her up and put her in the car. She asked what he was doing and was yelled at to shut up. They drove for a long time, long enough for her to fall asleep. For the next three days, she was yelled at, fondled, even hit a few times. And then, when the fourth day was up, Angela was dropped off in front of her house. She couldn’t deny that she was terrified. But at the same time, all of their attention, their focus was on her. And she had to admit, she liked that part of it.
When she went inside, Gina started yelling, demanding to know where she had been. She had gotten home the day before, and Angela was gone. That was it – she had been missed for one day. She decided to keep the secret to herself and simply roll her eyes, snapping at her sister that it was none of her business. Gina threatened to tell her dad, and honestly, part of Angie hoped that she would. But after a few days, Gina forgot all about it.
Towards the ending of the tour, Diane, a VERY short-term girlfriend of her dad’s, started calling, wanting to know where he was. Angie refused to answer, but the last time she called, Gina picked up, and told her the expected date of their dad’s return. When he did return, he did so with three surprises. Caitlin came home with him, which brightened Angela’s day immensely. But, they also came home with twin boys, which meant that the attention on Angela was diminished that much more. And to make matters worse, Diane brought yet another baby, a girl.
Angela couldn’t stand the house all of a sudden. It was filled with diapers, bottles, and crying babies. When she started middle school, she was thankful. Angela started signing up for as many clubs as she could, just to stay away from home. This led her to trying several new things, from pottery, and farming to acting and cheerleading. But her absolute favorite was journalism, mostly because that was what Caitlin did. After dropping out of everything else, Angela devoted herself full-time to the Digest. The teacher who ran it had to admit that she was the best one, and even suggested that she see what programs Angela could get into for the summer. Angela loved this idea. After all, despite the fact that Gina was about to leave for college, there were still the screaming babies to get away from.
She asked Joey about it, and for half a minute, he listened to her before saying yes. Perhaps he should have considered it more, but he didn’t. So, Angela packed her bags, and without her father really knowing where she was going, headed for Los Angeles. That was where Anna Foster, also known as Jubilee, was. The girl had made her own television show and after making a couple of phone calls and talking to the older teenager on the phone, she was welcomed to go help her.
The two drove up and down the coast that summer, protesting different things with a video camera for Justice with Jubilee. While Angela never actually got involved with any of the protests, she was the kid behind the scenes, doing the research for topics to protest, and planning where to go when. She also ran into Caitlin, who had left for LA earlier in the year. She had lunch with her, and when Caitlin asked her to be careful, she promised she would be. Caitlin was always the closest thing she had to a mother, so Angela would do anything for her.
When it was time to go home in August, she and Anna exchanged emails, promising to keep in touch. She returned home, only to be caught up with the family drama, including the fact that Gina was pregnant. She was also approached by Emma, whose twins were almost a year old by now. Emma asked her to babysit the twins for her. It would require giving up journalism for the moment, though. But when she thought about it, Emma was giving her the attention she craved. So, the almost- fourteen year old agreed. From that first day of the job, Angela fell in love with her nephew and niece. Scott and Marissa were the cutest infants ever. And as she entered eighth grade and turned fourteen, Angela found herself spending all of her time at school and at Emma’s. Which was why, when they started planning Craig and Emma’s wedding, Angela was the most involved with it.
For those several months, Angela wasn’t angry or resentful towards anyone at all. Emma was her best friend at this point. They told each other everything. Or so, she thought. But Angela turned out to be very, very wrong. At the wedding, it was announced that Emma was pregnant again. And when Angela commented about babysitting all three kids, Emma broke the news to her. Angela wouldn’t be babysitting them. Emma claimed that it would be too much for her. Maybe it would, but at the same time it was very possible that Angela could have handled it. Angela felt scorned. She was hurt. But Emma never noticed.
Once more, Angela was invisible. All of her father’s attention was on Ezekiel, Jeremy, and Erin. Emma no longer wanted her around. And when she started ninth grade, she found that the Grapevine didn’t need any help. Angela didn’t want to try any of the other clubs. She figured that it would be the same thing. For the first time, she began missing the people who held her for three days. She knew it sounded crazy, but she wanted to be given attention to like they had before.
Angela went home, and used her father’s computer. And when nobody was looking, which was really easy, she posted an online ad. She put that she was looking for the people who kidnapped her, explaining that she didn’t want to get anyone in trouble and that her dad never even knew what happened. She explained that all she wanted was to talk. She left her cell phone number. What she never expected was to ever find them. But hours after she posted it, her cell phone went off. It was the man. She recognized his voice instantly.
The two talked for a few minutes. He seemed nervous. He didn’t want to talk on the phone. So Angela kept it short. She asked him to take her again. She promised that she wouldn’t tell. They wouldn’t be followed. And he could do anything he wanted. All she wanted was the attention. She even told him he could keep her overnight. And to Angela’s surprise, he agreed. Told her to meet him where he took her the first time. So, Angela snuck out of the house and went into that alley.
This happened every few months. Part of Angela had hoped that her dad would catch her walking in after having been gone for a night, sometimes even two. But the closest they ever got to it was one morning when Angela walked in and Joey was coming down. He looked at her, looked at the clock and commented that she was awake already. Part of Angela wanted to sob and tell him what she had done. Scream at him to pay attention. But she couldn’t bring herself to do it.
Just as she had been in elementary school, Angela found herself a loner in high school. Which only drew her more and more to her former kidnappers. She was alone everywhere she went, whether it be at home or at school. Nothing she did managed to get any kind of attention at all. She had even gone as far as forging her father’s name and getting a tattoo. And to be honest, there were times when her kidnappers would take things too far. Of course, Angela never said anything about it, because she was the one who used the word anything. The whole thing had Angela wanting to fly far, far away. Which was how she started getting interested in planes.
As she entered her eleventh grade year, Angela had a new obsession. She wanted to fly. Rather than spending her days talking with her kidnappers, she spent all of her time doing research. She read up on planes, familiarized with their structures, engines, seating capacity. By the time she finished the year, she knew. She was going to be a pilot. She didn’t know how, she didn’t know when. But Angela Jeremiah was going to fly a plane.
Over the summer, Caitlin and Joey had gotten back together once more, and she moved in with her seven year old daughter. Kylie was put in Angela’s room. Angie wasn’t sure how she felt about Kylie. After all, she couldn’t fault the seven year old for anything. Though, she thought it was only fair to warn the kid that her bedroom was where her dad stuck people and forgot about them. She wasn’t trying to be mean—she was genuinely warning her. Though, when Caitlin found out, she took it like that and asked Angela to please be nice to her daughter. She then asked Angela to talk to her. Angie didn’t say much about her feelings or what had been going on with her, but she did talk about her dream.
Nothing more was said. Angela figured that just like everyone else, Caitlin had forgotten her. She entered her final year of high school, and as the year dragged on, she made a couple more appointments with her kidnappers. As the school year neared its final trimester, her dad started talking about college. He couldn’t wait for her to go to Banting. He just knew his daughter was smart enough for it. That same night, there was a brochure for a pilot academy on her nightstand in her room. The program included job placement. Without a word to anyone, Angela submitted her application for it and got accepted.
As the year ended, her dad kept pressuring her to tell him if she heard back from Banting yet. She started to tell him the truth. She hadn’t even applied at Banting. As she looked at him, though, she couldn’t do it. If anyone were to ask Angela why, she had no idea. She knew she shouldn’t care, but she really didn’t want to disappoint him. So, she told him that she had gotten accepted. That was halfway true, at least. She had been accepted. Just not to the place he thought she had been.
Joey had never been so proud of Angela as he was that day. He had called and told everyone the lie that she had told him. And for once, Angela was given some attention. She was showered with it. And as she got closer and closer to graduation, she knew that she would have to tell her dad the truth. So, the day before the ceremony, when everyone was talking at once and pizza was on the table, she finally blurted it out. She told him—in front of her five year old siblings and seven year old Kylie—that she wasn’t going to college. She also managed to get out that he didn’t pay any attention to her before she ran off to her room.
Angela never anticipated what would happen next. To her complete shock, he actually followed her and talked to her. Everything came out, with the exception of meeting with her kidnappers. He was still left in the dark about that part of her life. But the tattoo, the pilot program—everything else was discussed. And her dad agreed that she would do it. He promised her that he would support her in whatever she wanted to do. So, the next day, she graduated high school and packed her things to leave for the program.
After two years, Angela graduated from the program and was offered a job flying for Air Canada. Initially, she was only flying national flights. But after five years, she was offered a position at Air France, which involved international flights to France, as well as India and the Philippines. That is what she has been doing for the last four years. She spends most of her time flying, with the occasional stint home. She is a very private person, only spending time with family and her kidnappers. For the last year, she has been addicted to pretending that she is a twenty-year old male named Skye
