He never expected a trip like this to have such an effect on him. It was an errand. At least, it started off that way. But as JJ's bag was placed over his head, and he was sitting on that plane, he started thinking. One thing that most people didn't give him credit for was thoughts. He also didn't get a whole lot of credit for having many emotions. The truth was, he had a lot of them. And as he stared at the clouds outside his window, they started rushing at him. It was a sad story, what his mother told him about the kid he was going to pick up. She was smacked around by her mom. And her dad? Didn't do jack. What kind of father could do that? He would never do that. All at once, he was thinking about his baby. His little girl. She was with Charlie. How fair was that? Just because he was a bully. JJ didn't think that meant anything. He could be a good dad, if he really tried. It could be cool.
He didn't know why he was thinking like this. He wasn't supposed to care. He was about to graduate. He had his whole life ahead of him. Her leaving, meant freedom. Now, he didn't have to worry about her and the baby holding him back. At least, that seemed to be the sentiments of his family. Even his mom seemed to think it was a good thing that his daughter was moved. So why was he holding on to a picture of him holding her the day she was born? Why did he sing to it every night? And why the hell was he crying right now?
He pulled the picture out of his jacket. Once more, he stared at his beautiful little girl. He was only seventeen, not nearly old enough, he knew. But-he was going to miss her first step. He wasn't going to be there to pick her up the first time she fell. Or scare off the first boy who showed up to take her on a date. He might have been seventeen, but those things were damn important. His mom said he was just a kid. What was Charlie, a woman? She was younger than he was.
''Attention, passengers. We are getting ready to land. The seat-belt lights are on. We ask that you return the trays to their original positions, and that all electronic devices be turned off. Have a nice day, and thank you for flying with us''. JJ sighed and leaned back, pocketing the picture once more. This wasn't about him, he knew that. He wasn't about to make anything about him. It was about meeting the girl and the social worker at the airport, and escorting the kid back to Toronto.
He waited his turn before grabbing his bag and heading to the gates, where he knew they would be waiting. Just go in, get her, get back on a plane. That was what they wanted him to do...but what fun would that be? He approached security, following the crowd of people out, his hat backwards as usual, slinging his duffel over his shoulder. He looked around before spotting them. They had to be the right ones. Getting a fresh grip on his bag, he approached them. ''Uh, Rebekah? You Rebekah White?'' He had an innocent smile, but he definitely had a different plan in mind than the social worker would approve of.

This was the hardest thing that she ever had to do. Well, maybe not the hardest. But it was still pretty hard. Becka was leaving everything that she knew behind. She was suddenly around strangers. And she had to admit, Rebekah was pretty scared. After so many years of abuse from her mother, it had become her life. She did not know anything else. And she did not know how to live without her parents. She really did love them both. But they also scared her. Greatly. They were gone, though. Out of her life. So, why was Becka still so scared? Scared that she would get hit at any moment? She was safe now. Shouldn't the 11-year-old feel safe, then? That likely would not be happening anytime soon though. Not after suffering such abuse the past six or so years. Though it felt like a lifetime. How could any child her age learn how to deal? It would not be easy. That was for sure.
Becka had been out of her home for a month now. She had her clothes, personal possession, and of course most importantly her kitty. Normally animals weren't allowed in the group home. But after getting out of the hospital, she screamed and cried and bit. She needed her kitty. She was Becka's best friend. The only one that the child could really trust and talk to. She could not leave without Bella. Without her own baby. No. Not a chance. The child had been through so much. They did not want to take any sort of security away from her. So they allowed the girl to take the kitten with her.
Now she was at the airport, holding onto her little bitty cat carries. After all, her cat was only 3 months old, smaller than a kitty her age should even be. She sat in the seat next to the social worker she were with. A man, of course. Because no woman or even a girl could get close enough to Becka without the child freaking out and panicking. So they thought that a male social worker might be for the best.
Then there was a male voice and she heard her name. Swallowing, Rebekah looked up at the teenager and nodded her head. “Yeah. That's my name.” she spoke shyly. Well, at least it was not a female picking her up, right?

His eyes were on the social worker. His mother had signed everything, right? JJ didn't want to have to do any forns or whatever. But he wan't holding anything. With a nod, he looked at the girl. "Cool. I'm JJ. My mom's your cousin or whatever? I'm picking you up, since, you know, girl issues." Was he supposed to be rubbing that in her face? He wasn't too sure. Probably not, actually. But this was why his mom handled these kind of things. She always knew what to say. He didn't. And it didn't matter who it was, either. It could be someone he was madly in love with, and he wouldn't know what to say. He could tell by the look on the social worker's face that he didn't like anything that JJ just said, either. So, he decided it was time to ditch the dodo.
"So, I guess we should get going. Got a plane to catch." Or something like that. The girl was in for an adventure, that was for sure. His mother never said he had to do exactly what the social worker said. So, they were gonna have a little bit of fun first. But really, anyone who sent JJ to do a job oughtta know that he was going to do it his way. Which, most of the time, meant doing it wrong. But who cared? The job would get done. The girl would be in the house, sharing a room with Jenna. It just so happened that they weren't getting on a plane. Planes were boring. JJ was over planes. He was ready for something else.
JJ led her away from the adult, before ducking around a corner and looking at her. "You cool with bending the rules a little?" he asked with a grin. "We're gonna have fun. Come on," he said as he walked away from the gate they were supposed to be heading to. Looking down at her carrier, he tilted his head curiously. "What is that, a purse?" Did a ten year old even need a purse? He didn't think so. But he could be wrong. Hell, Aubrey probably had her first purse by now, and she was just a couple of months old. Shit, if he could see her again, he would buy her a purse already.

Becka took a quick glance back at the adult, before following JJ around the corner. Stopping and looking up at the older boy, she tilted her head slightly. Bending the rules? That did not sound like a good thing. That sounded like trouble. And quickly, Becka thought about what her mother always did to her when she found herself in trouble. She bit her bottom lip, cautiously. “I-I don't know. I don't want to get into trouble.” she spoke in that soft childlike voice. She looked around, before seeing a group of friends (women) walking closer and closer to them. Swallowing, Becka took a step closer to JJ, practically hiding behind him. Sure, the girls father had never stopped her mother, but he never hurt her either. Which was why she was so afraid of women.
Backing up, she looked down at her carrier. “This is Bella. She's my kitty. I couldn't leave her, I just couldn't.” A sweet little kitty too. Scared and shy. It would appear that her last owners did not treat her very well. And Becka's mother never really helped nor did she care. But Rebekah, even though just 11, was taking extremely good care of Bella. Kept her clean and fed. Gave her plenty of attention. With how her own parents were, it was the closest that Becka had ever felt to being loved. “They won't care, will they?” she asked referring to JJ's own parents. She looked down at her pet carrier before looking back up at JJ. “They won't be mad?” She asked, a little fear in her voice. No, she did not want anyone to be angry with her. She did not want to be punished again.

JJ shook his head. ''Nobody will be in trouble, all right? It'll be fun.'' This girl had heard of fun, right? He hoped so. As the group of women went by, though, he got distracted. His eyes went down slowly as he whistled. Hey, they were hot! ''Hey, baby why don't you come over and fly with me?'' One of them looked up, encouraging him to wink and nod. ''How ya doin?'' It was the meow that snapped him out of it. He looked back to her, in time to hear her explanation. JJ sighed. ''Who would be angry about that? Look. Ma takes a lot of kids in. Some girls, some guys, some freaks, some dorks. And I don't always like it. But let me tell you, you won't find a better place to live. Mom and dad are laid back. There's not a lot of rules. And as long as you don't steal or threaten anyone, you'll be fine.'' He hoped that would help. He didn't know what else to say.
With that said, JJ was ready to get going. He took her hand and led her out past security, the way she came no doubt, and out the doors. He spotted a rental car shuttle and led her on it. ''In case you failed to realize, we are not flying home. Too boring.'' and too emotionally hard. JJ wasn't going to catch himself crying over Aubrey again. Nope, not going to happen. He would call later, make up some bullshit about the tickets getting lost or something, just so his mom wouldn't worry. He knew Johnny wouldn't. But his mom-she always worried. JJ was told once that she couldn't help it. And he believed it. His mom never got a break in her life. Everything she had, she had to work hard to get. JJ sometimes thought she should have had an abortion. He never told her that. He wouldn't dare. He knew she loved him. And he loved her. That was his mama.

She was so sure that no one would understand. At school she was often teased and bullied. It was not fair! They just did not understand her home life. Her mother was the reason that she was so afraid of all women in general, of all ages. She often got in trouble because of how she reacted whenever approached by anyone of the same sex. They tried to understand. But Becka would never tell. She hardly spoke. And she did have one or two close friends that were boys. Everyone else just thought that she was a freak. And hey, maybe she was one. Becka believed herself to be one, thanks to the kids at her previous school.
Taking JJ's hand, she followed him out the doors to the airport before looking up at him and tilting her head. “We're not?” Becka had never been on a plane before, to be perfectly honest. She walked onto the shuttle car and found a seat, sitting down. What would this boy think of her? She hoped that he was not like those other kids at her old school. One that thought of her as some sort of freak or something. She was actually quite nervous to be going to a new home. She had always lived with her mommy and daddy. “Where are we going?”
