Chaos had ensued in her house. It was quickly filling up, first with Nesse, and now Marcus had moved in as well. Mallory had been sharing a room with Riley, but even that was a fairly recent change. Riley had just come home a few months ago. Sure, Mallory had plenty of siblings, but that didn't mean that she wasn't used to having her dad and the house to herself. When Marcus moved in, Mallory started being away from home as much as possible. Which, for the most part, meant spending more time at the shelter. Mallory loved volunteering at the shelter. She had always felt like she connected to animals better than she did to people. Aidan was the exception. Then again, he was just like a puppy. A loveable, dorky, playful little puppy. And he was all hers.
Mallory played with the bracelet he had given her for Christmas. It would be their fifth month anniversary in just a couple more days. Which meant that in just one more month, they would have been together for six, long months. She had never had a boyfriend for so long before. Her only other boyfriend had been Derek the year before, and he hadn't treated her very well. The two had only lasted a month. Aidan was so much different than Derek, or any other boy for that matter. He knew how to take care of her. He knew how she should be treated, and that meant everything to her. She would always feel safe around Aidan.
"Mallory?"
Her head jerked up, drawing her out of her daydream and bringing her back to where she was, holding a puppy while the new owner filled out the necessary paperwork.
"Yes?"
"We're done here. Do you think you could go give a hand with the cats?"
Mallory smiled, sweetly. "Sure," she said, handing the puppy over. "Good luck with her. Give me a call if you need help training her." With that, she went and washed her hands thoroughly before heading into the cats' kennel. It didn't take but a few minutes to get lost in her thoughts once more.
She wanted to do something special for Aidan when their six month anniversary came up. She had saved up her allowance, just for the occasion. It was a big thing to her, to have a six month anniversary. It made her feel like they would always be together. and she loved that feeling.
She hadn't been looking where she was going, as usual. As Mallory walked, she stepped on a broom that had fallen. It rolled underneath her foot, and she found herself falling on her knees. She blinked in surprise, but wasn't hurt. This happened to her quite often. What she didn't notice, though, was the boy that was in there with her.
