if you're buying, I'm drinking.
Nathan smirked and patted his friend's back. "We need something stronger than beer," he told him as he pushed the now-empty glass towards the bartender. "Hey, how about some whiskey?" The stuff was strong, and Nathan rarely drank it. In fact, he hadn't had anything stronger than a beer in years. But today, he didn't care about responsibilities. He didn't care if he was supposed to be at home handling Chastity or out looking for a new house. He didn't care if he had to be up for work in the morning. None of that mattered right now.
"We are not dads right now, Danny," he informed his best friend as he was handed a shot of whiskey. "we're not anything." Because, he didn't want to think about anything else except the drink in his hand. Downing the whiskey, he gestured for another one. He was sure he'd end up regretting this. But right now, he just didn't give a damn.

To be completely wasted on a Monday night wasn't Danny's normal behavior. Now, he didn't have anything against a drink or two when he had work the next morning. There were nights he had beer, or when he went home and had a single drink of whiskey or scotch. Those were things that he thought were pretty typical. It was a way of taking the edge off of the day without becoming completely drunk or dealing with a hangover in the morning. But, tonight, Nathan was right. They didn't need to be drinking light. It had been a rough enough day and he nodded, "Sounds good." He grabbed the shot and slammed it back without hesitation. Used to the taste, it barely burned on the way down, but he set it down, nodding to the barman to set him up again. If he was going to get drunk, he was going to do it right.
"You're right. Forget being parents." He said, for the night, it was okay. He loved his kids, he did, and he would have done anything for them. But tonight, he was spending the night for himself. Then as he looked at Nathan, he gave him a curious look. "Why are we getting a new house anyway? What's wrong with the old place?" He asked, recalling his mention of house hunting. Danny had recently finished the same kind of search and he thought that he had picked out a pretty decent apartment. It had enough room for the three of them and allowed dogs as big as Mitzy, so it had to be worth it. It was different, going from his house to an apartment, but it was nice and something new.

"I know I'm right," he said with a chuckle. Nathan usually didn't do this. He wasn't one of those losers who abandoned his kids, like that asshole Jimmy. But was it really that bad to have one night to himself and his best friend? He didn't think so. And, if they happened to use that one night to get wasted and find the hottest women they could find, then so be it. Nathan wasn't with anyone. And while he probably should have been too old for one-night stands, tonight he just didn't care. "Keep them coming," he told the bartender as he downed the next shot. When the question was raised, he looked at Danny.
"We found a girl in our shed. Barely alive. One of them Sniper victims. I figure, we don't wanna live in a place where the Sniper kills people. Think of how many girls could have died back there. We don't like that," he explained as he took another shot. It was terrible to think about. Especially since his neices were most likely tortured in there. Nathan had no intention of sticking around. God, why did the Sniper have to pick him? Nathan wasn't anybody special. Just an architect with 5 kids, and now Kari and her kid to take care of. "We especially don't want Kari finding out."
