Sincerity was hard to find when he was being put against her right now. Being hurt and angry over everything that happened hadn't gone away. He still very much was. He focused on what was important, however, like taking care of his kids, working and trying to bring some stability into their life after he uprooted them. But he had to do it and he hoped that they understood. At least, he hoped Tara understood. Chris didn't care, not about moving. He cared that he didn't see his mom. But, he adapted well. Being so young worked in his favour there. It was Tara that he worried about the most.
"You planned more than I did. You're the one who slept around, you're the one who left. It wasn't me." He reminded her, because he wasn't going to have this turned around. "What was I supposed to do? Sit there and wait for you to come back like a lost puppy? You left me, Maggie. I couldn't stay in that house, not with you all over it." Because it hurt. That was the bottom line. And he tried to keep the attitude but it seemed to falter there. His tone had grown quieter. "Not to mention, you know how much that house cost. We did well when it was the two of us, I can't afford that house and to take care of the kids the way they expect." He could probably find a way, but he wasn't going to, not when he needed something new too.

yes. Maggie had, indeed, expected Danny to always be there to go back to. When Zack first asked her to move in, she had protested. Danny can't live without me, she had said. I can't do that to him. I'm his whole world. And when she finally agreed, she reasoned that he would always be there. That she could have gone back at any time. And now, she was starting to see that she was dead wrong there. And as his tone got quiet, she looked down.
"I wanted to tell you" she said, lowering her voice as well. "But I-" she looked up at him. "I just couldn't. I couldn't stand to see the look on your face." God, she was a coward. If the roles had been reversed, she would have tracked Danny down and punched him in the face for leaving with a stupid note. It was a complete double standard. "And I didn't even know what to say to Tara and Chris"

Danny couldn't stay in that house. It had too much of them and too many memories that he didn't want to look at each and every day. Finances helped his decision, naturally, but at the same time, he couldn't be there. What she did hurt him and it still hurt. That hadn't even gotten close to fading yet. And sure, he could put on a face and he could be sarcastic and snarky, because he was, in fact, angry. But, at the end of the day, it hurt. That wasn't something that he could just bounce right back from. And as much as it hurt, he wasn't going to wait around for her to come back to him. He wasn't even going to accept that as an option. She chose another man over him. And that did wonders on how he felt about himself. There was no way he would go back to her. He couldn't. He could never trust her and the way she acted now, he was glad he didn't sit around and wait.
"The look on my face? Do you know how you avoid that, Maggie? You don't sleep around, you don't leave me, if we're having problems, you could've told me." And while he wanted to yell at her, his voice kept that quiet tone, revealing too much of how he felt. "You know what I can't stand?" He asked. "Getting a note telling me that my wife is leaving me for another man." When she said she didn't know what to say to the kids, he shook his head, scoffing out a chuckle, but it sounded more sad than it did sarcastic. "And you think I knew how to tell them?"

Maggie looked to the side. It wasn't that cut and dry. It wasn't as simple as just not cheating. It was a lot like drugs. You could tell kids "just say no" all you wanted, but at the end of the day, it was a whole lot more complicated than that. Zack had been trying to seduce her for a long time before she ever gave in. He even made comments in front of Danny. And Maggie had resisted. But the more time went by, the more she could see that Danny was happy with his perfect family, and she couldn't tell him that she wanted so much more.
"What would you have me do, Danny? Would you rather I kept the whole thing a secret and be living a lie? Because if I hadn't left, that's exactly what you would have gotten. You're a brilliant man. Couldn't you tell at all that things weren't completely perfect? I love you, don't get me wrong. I will always love you. And I don't think I can explain myself so you'll understand." Shaking her head, she turned to go, before pausing and looking at him. "Did you ever think of going after me?" Honestly, she had hoped he would. She would have loved nothing more than for him to show up and punch Zack's lights out. It definitely would have rekindled something between them.

To Danny it wasn't a complicated issue. She cheated on him and that was it. He had been able to keep himself from ever cheating on her and he didn't see how it could be that hard. And if she wanted someone else so badly, then she should have left him before she went down that path. Danny had been loyal to her and he didn't see why he couldn't expect the same thing. He didn't feel sympathy for her over it. And maybe it would have been easier if he had been given more than a note to tell him that it was over. He had been happy and sure, there were issues. Every relationship had them, but he didn't think that theirs were so bad. Apparently, he was wrong.
"No, I would rather have the truth. I'd rather have you come forward and leave before you decided to sleep with him. At the very least, I'd rather you told me to my face. I deserved more than a note, Maggie." He had to have. He didn't think he deserved being treated this way. Their family didn't deserve that. When she looked back at him, he looked down. "What do you think?" His eyes raised again. "Of course I thought about it, but what would it do? And what would it say about me? I'm not letting you walk all over me that way. You hurt me, Maggie. I'm not crawling back to you."

"It would have said a lot" she corrected him. "I wanted someone who would fight for me. Zack was trying for a full year, Danny. I nearly quit, but then I thought, why should I? You say you deserve more than a note, and I say that I deserve someone who is willing to put up a fight to keep me." Or something. She looked down at her wedding ring, still on her finger. Maybe he had been right. She should have said something. She could have saved their marriage. But she hadn't.
"What did you tell them?" she asked him, softly. It was something she had refused to think about, but now it was on the forefront of her mind. The kids. How had he explained all this to them? Especially Chris, he was so young.

"That's great, Maggie. It's nice to know some asshole was trying to steal my wife and succeeded." Of course he was bitter. He didn't think that he should have to fight for her in that way. They were adults and he didn't need to get jealous and upset over someone else. They were supposed to be able to trust each other and she shattered that. "Fight to keep you-- Why? Why was I at such a risk of losing you in the first place? What was so damn wrong with what we had that you thought I needed to fight to have you? That's a horrible test, Maggie. You can't believe yourself." Or maybe she did and it didn't help him in the least. "We're not animals." He wasn't going to fight someone because she decided to sleep with them. It took two to tango and as much as he hated that son of a bitch, she wasn't an unwilling participant and he didn't blame her completely. No one could be stolen. They gave themselves away and Danny wasn't going to stay in a marriage or fight for someone that betrayed him that way. He wanted to think he had more self-confidence than that.
At the next question, he took a breath before stepping back and moved towards the couch to sit down. While he said nothing to her, it was an invitation that she could come in further. He wasn't going to stand there and fight and the conversation had taken a more emotional turn. He looked back at her, after studying the floor for a moment. "With Chris, I had to tell him that sometimes mommy and daddy's feelings change for each other and that they have to be apart. I told him that we wouldn't be together anymore, but that you still loved him the same, that no matter what happens we'll always love and be there for him." He explained, still quiet. It hadn't been an easy conversation to have with a four year old. He could only understand so much and it was hard to know what to say and how to curb his fears and to keep him from having a completely traumatic experience. "He didn't take it easily." He added and of course not, he was four years old and wanted his mother. "Tara, I talked to separately."

"Because then, it would mean that I meant something more than just the title of wife, Danny. That's why" she said, when he asked why he should have fought for her. She needed to feel cared about. Saying I love you wasn't always enough. Maybe it should have been, but it wasn't. Didn't Danny get that? If there was another woman trying to steal her husband away, she would have gone down scratching and clawing. There was no way Danny would have gotten away without a fight.
As he went on to explain, though, her heart sank into the pit of her stomach. For the first time, she was feeling the effects of what she had done. "Danny--" grabbing his collar, she suddenly pulled him close to her and kissed him. If he didn't know what to do, then hell, she'd show him! After all, he belonged to her.

"It was always more than just a title!" He didn't see how she could think that about it. He loved her, she meant the world to him and that wasn't just some title to him. But, he thought that if it went both ways that there didn't have to be a fight. He wouldn't have considered making her fight someone for him. He wouldn't have let himself be taken in by another woman. He loved his wife and he didn't think that this would have happened to him. Perhaps he put too much trust into their relationship, but it had lasted this long and had been the first serious relationship that he had been in. It was something that he didn't think would just disappear or be destroyed by an affair with her boss. If he had known, maybe he would have paid more attention. But no matter what comments were made by Zach, he always thought Maggie would be his at the end of the day.
What Danny didn't expect was the kiss. He was pulled close and while he barely kissed her back at first, it took seconds for his reflex to kick in and he kissed her back. His hands had even started to find their way to her waist, but he pulled back suddenly, only inches, however. "No." He said, but in close proximity, he found his lips on hers again, torn between wanting it and wanting her far from him at the same time. After the second, he suddenly pulled back completely, putting up a hand. "We're not doing this," he breathed. He shouldn't. They weren't together and he knew that this was the last thing that he should be doing. She cheated and left him, he didn't need to be so willing to just go at her.

"Really? Cause I couldn't tell!" she said, shaking her head. If Danny had ever said anything to Zack about the comments, then she never heard him. And she had wanted to hear him. She wanted him to defend her. Danny was far too passive and she couldn't stand it.
She smiled into the kiss once he kissed her back, putting a hand on the back of his head. She did miss this. If there was one thing she could say about her husband, it was that he was a good kisser. But then he stopped it, and she caught her breath, looking up in his eyes. "You say I'm more than a title?" she asked, leaning in and whispering into his ear. "Prove it." And with that, she kissed him again, with more passion than the first two kisses.

"Then you should have opened your eyes!" He snapped back, because seriously, what was he supposed to do? He wasn't going to fight everyone that made a comment at her. He would rather avoid that confrontation and not deal with it. He didn't think he had something he had to protect because he didn't think that she needed him to ensure that she didn't sleep with other men. It took two people to cheat and it was her fault too and not once was it his. He wasn't going to buy into the idea that it had ever been his at all.
Danny knew that the next move should have never happened. He should have pushed her away, told her to leave and never thought about continuing. But instead, he felt compelled to kiss her back. And at her whisper, he couldn't help the chill that seemed to tingle through him. He wanted to kiss her again, despite reason telling him what a horrible idea it was. But instead of pulling back, he responded to the kiss with the same amount of passion, muffling a sound into it before his hands moved to her waist. And then, as if to prove a point, he advanced, attempting to push her towards the wall, the kiss heating up even beyond what it had been. "I have nothing to prove to you." he murmured, pulling from the kiss for only a second before he dove right back in.

"Me? What about you? You couldn't see anything that went on right under your nose!" she insisted. She knew he didn't like confrontation. But sometimes, you had to do things you didn't like to keep the woman you have. At least, in her opinion. If Danny ever noticed, then Maggie never knew it. At the very least, he could have punched Zack for stealing her away.
When her back hit the wall, she exhaled, looking in his eyes with excitement. When he rattled on about having nothing to prove, she scoffed. "Shut up and take me" she whispered, and when he dove back in, she moaned. Her hand went to his pants, wanting to undress him and wanting him to undress her. She wanted him, here and now.

"I trusted you!" And maybe he was completely blind because he trusted and loved her and didn't think she was ever going to do that to him. It was a naive way of thinking, but it hadn't changed. He didn't go out of his way to be confrontational and he thought that it would have just come across as jealous and too aggressive. He wasn't aggressive and that was just how it was. He wasn't about to change and he didn't think that he needed to go out of his way to punch someone for his wife wanting to sleep with them. She should have had more control than that.
And he should have had more control right now. He pressed against her, then pulled from the kiss, only to lean down, pressing his lips over her neck heatedly. As her hands went to his pants, he grabbed her hand suddenly and pulled back from the kissing, barely any distance between them though. "Bedroom. Now." He replied, meeting her demand just the same. Sure, he could take her right there, against the wall, but he wasn't about to risk having either of the kids walking in. While he thought Chris would be out for the next several hours, he wasn't ready to explain to a four year old what his parents were doing in the middle of the living room and he absolutely didn't want to scar Tara that way. So, he pulled back, but kept his hands on her stepping backwards to lead to the hall that went to his room.

Technically, they shouldn't be doing this. When Maggie moved in with Zack, she switched loyalties. But that didn't matter. Danny had been hers for far longer than she even knew Zack. She felt like they never really ended well anyways. They should have done this one last time before she left. But Maggie hadn't been thinking when she left. She had just wanted to do it quickly, and before Danny got home. She had written the letter in a hurry, and had done a terrible job packing, because she didn't want him coming home and finding her.
God, what was it about him that made him so damned sexy today? Maggie heard his order to go to the bedroom, and a smile spread across her face. "Mhm. I love it when you take charge," she whispered heatedly as she followed him into the bedroom. It was a definite turn-on, hearing his stern voice like that.

Frankly, Danny didn't care about Zack right now. He didn't care if she was technically cheating on her new guy with him, because he'd already felt that betrayal and if Zack thought that he was somehow special enough not to be cheated on, then he was probably more naive than Danny was. He didn't care about that, but he knew they shouldn't do this. He was supposed to be moving on. It was still hard and he needed to put as much distance between him and their relationship as he could, not fall into bed with her and risk those feelings trying to attach onto her again. This was a stupid idea. He didn't need to be putting his emotion into sex instead of just yelling at her and kicking her out the door.
Instead of doing what he should, he led her to his bedroom, shut and locked the door behind him. "I know," he replied, because of course he did. He moved forward yet again, closing the distance between them fast. And already his hands were working to get her shirt off, his lips seeking hers yet again as he kept moving forward, trying to push her back towards the bed.
