Nowadays, it wasn't very often that Vivian left the house, unless it was to go to the Country Club for tea. Life without her husband was dull, and Vivian just wasn't the same woman. She didn't meet with her friends weekly like she used to. She didn't throw benefits and parties anymore. Ever since Jacob died, Vivian just kept to herself. The only time she ever really came alive was when she was helping one of her grandchildren. She devoted her time to making Aidan look presentable and helping the girls out with their coming out parties because it let her know that she was breathing. Without being able to help them, she felt numb to the core.
Chance was back. Vivian was so glad; Chance had always been her favorite. When he came with Ben, though, she had been so distracted that she had barely listened to anything Ben had to say. She agreed to pay for something, she was sure of that much. She just couldn't remember what, It had been a hard day for Vi, since it was the six month anniversary of her husband's death. She sincerely believed that Ben forgot all about it, too. Now that she had herself more pulled together, she wanted another chance with the boy. She had called him earlier that morning and asked him to meet her here for lunch.
Vivian had made a reservation after getting off the phone with Chance, so she was taken to a table quickly and efficiently. She ordered a tea as she waited for her grandson. In her purse rested an envelope that was addressed to Chance. She hadn't given it to him when she saw him, so she was doing it now. It was better to get him alone, anyways. Especially since she was giving him more money than anyone else. As Vivian waited, she unfolded a napkin and set it in her lap. She stirred her tea and took a sip.
