Part One: Doorstep Delivery
The year of the shooting changed things for everyone. We've heard the stories of how everyone was affected. We know of that fateful night in the ravine, which changed Emma's life forever. We know how Alex reacted when she learned that her boyfriend had not only cheated on her, but given her and everyone he had been with Gonorrhea. But what happened to Jay afterwards seems to be overlooked.
Jay never meant to get anyone sick. And when Alex broke up with him it hurt far more than he ever let on. Sure, he had messed around with a few girls and even slept with one of them. But if Jay only knew what his life-style would cost him, he never would have done it.
Jay realized that he was going to have to do something worthwhile when he was expelled from school. So after messing around for a year and finding himself about to turn eighteen with absolutely no way of supporting himself, he went and got a job at an auto shop.
Graduation came and went. Everyone was packing up and going off to college. Everyone, that is except for one cute redhead.
Ellie wasn't so sure she wanted to go to college. She decided to take a year off. So when her car broke down, Jay found himself fixing Ellie Nash's car, to his surprise. And he soon found himself not as lonely as he had been. Ellie served as the companionship he had been stripped of when Alex broke up with him and he was expelled.
So that is why when things were turned upside down, Jay turned to Ellie for help in the middle of the night.
Jay Hogart was never afraid of anything, Or if he was, he never showed it. That was just the way he worked. But the night he had a special delivery, he freaked.
It was after midnight. Jay had just gotten home. And the second he closed the door and turned on the lights in his apartment, there was a knock. When Jay answered the door, there was noone there. Jay started to shut the door, when he heard the oddest sound ever. It was the sound of a baby crying. He looked down and there she was. A four-month old baby girl lying in a carseat, and there was an envelope on her lap
Dear Jay,
Meet your daughter. Yes, your daughter. That one night in the ravine caused me nine months of pain. Her name is Destiny. I've tried to take care of her, but I can't. I am not a kid person. In with this letter are her birth certificate and shot records as of now. She's four months old, so she'll need a booster shot in a couple of months.
She's a bit of a crier. Good luck with her
Trisha
Jay read the letter and blinked. Trisha was the one girl he had slept with at the ravine, as opposed to just getting a blow job. She wasn't a kid person. Like Jay was? Jay looked down at the kid.
Jay was stunned. He just kept looking at this....little person. This little baby that he suddenly had to take care of. He picked her up and held her, not close at all. His arms were outstretched and he just looked in her little eyes.
Of course, Destiny did not like this. Her face wrinkled up and she started crying.
That was enough for Jay. He almost dropped her in her carseat as he picked up the handle and went to his car. He put it in the car without even seatbelting it down and drove off to Ellie's apartment.
There had never been a quicker ten minutes than the drive to Ellie's. Jay picked Destiny up out of her seat and ran to the door, pounding on it with his fist. When Ellie sleepily got out of bed, staggered to the door and opened it, she was surprised to see a baby shoved in her arms
Ellie looked down at the child as she quickly wrapped her arms around the infant and rocked her "did someone make a visit to Baby's-R-Us?" she asked him
"apparently she's mine" Jay paced across her living room
Ellie's face was stunned "what?"
"I slept with a girl and bippety-boppety-boo a year later there's a kid on my doorstep"
Ellie sighed. Destiny was still crying "hey there it's ok. Everything's gonna be ok" she said soothingly. Slowly Destiny quieted down. Ellie attempted to hand her back to Jay
"don't give that to me!" he exclaimed
"Jay, she's your daughter" Ellie told him
"what is it with women and using that word? stop saying that!" he folded his arms
"what, daughter? Ok, how about kid?"
Jay didn't say anything, he just sat down. Ellie sat down beside him "you're going to have to face it Jay"
"I know, ok? But I held her earlier and she bawled at me"
Ellie sighed and said "well try again. Just lay her in your arms and hold her close" she slowly handed him the baby.
Jay sighed and hesitantly took Destiny in his arms, holding her alot closer than he had the first time. Ellie smiled and said "see? You can do this"
Jay looked in Destiny's eyes and sighed "babies are alot to handle. Diapers and formula and crying..."
Ellie smirked "Jay are you scared?" she asked
"No!" he responded immediately, then paused, thinking of how to put it "I'm just not used to the idea"
Ellie nodded "well I'm here. You won't have to go through this alone"
Jay looked at her "seriously?"
Ellie nodded "yeah. I'll tell you what. I'll make a temporary bed for her and you and her can sleep over then tomorrow we'll go and get everything you need"
Jay gladly let her take the baby "oh yeah cause I was just hoping I could go crib shopping tomorrow" he said sarcastically
