The fire really brought out a change in the 11-year-old girl. Before, Marissa was a little trouble maker. But now? Marissa stopped being the trouble maker she was. No, now she'd found God. She changed her attitude, her appearance, started going to church and reading the bible.
Okay, it had only been 3 weeks since the fire and 2 weeks since she'd been home. But...the fire changed her immensially. For 60 seconds the young girl had actually died, stopped breathing. In that 60 seconds, she had seen the light. Marissa thought that she was about to die. It scared her. She was mad on the inside. At Marco for forgetting about her; at her dad for being away when the fire occured. But she never spoke of it out loud.
It was Monday morning and Marissa quickly took a shower and got dressed. She grabbed her school books and her bible and walked downstairs. It was still too early. She didn't even have to leave for like another hour. So, she set down her books on the kitchen table and made herself a bowl of cereal.

Craig came downstairs and kissed her head "you got any tests today?"

Marissa took a bite of her cereal and looked up at her dad. "No. Not today at least." She smiled, sweetly. "Why do you ask, daddy?"

Marissa gave her dad a quizical look. "I'm not? But-you never let us skip school before. Why today?" She looked away. She really hoped that he wouldn't talk to her about her sudden change or the fire or anything. She hadn't talked to him about what had happened. And she hoped to keep it that way too.

Marissa looked up at him. "The zoo? Really? We haven't been there since I was little." She finished her cereal and put her bowl in the sink.

Marissa smiled. "Ever since..." she shook her head. No, she never talked about what happened that day of the fire and she wasn't about to start now. "I just thought it was time for a change."

No, no. Marissa tried to act as though the fire never happened. "Daddy, can we go?" she asked, sweetly, trying to change the subject.

"Ever since?" Marissa looked around confused and looked back up at her dad. "I don't know daddy." She really didn't wanna talk about what it was. She was traumatized by it and what she hated was the fact that her dad wasn't there when it happened.
