Jesse was a runaway from the system. No way was she ever going back there. And besides, who wanted her anyway? Jesse was a juvinile delinquint, she was a drug addict, not to mention a bit of a sex addict, she carried a knife, stabbed the kid in her last foster home, even killed a kid before. She was a hard time kid. But like everyone, she had a sensitive side. No one just ever sees it. Jesse is really just a scared little 15 year old girl inside. A girl who had never once in her entire life ever felt loved, like she belonged.
Maybe someday that would all change. But she highly doubted that it would be anytime soon. So, walking down the dark empty streets, a duffle bag over her shoulder, Jesse tried so desperately to find a place to crash, a place where she wouldn't be bothered.

Kate had been having difficulty lately not giving in to Chris. As she left the grocery store, she felt proud that she had it control for an entire hour. But without her first son had left Kate in a weakened state of mind. And when she was weak, Chris liked to take over. Sometimes Kate could fight it off, but since Kevin's funeral, Chris had all the control. Kate didn't even know why she had managed to take back over an hour ago. Whatever the reason she found her kitchen completely bare. Chris wasn't that responsible when it came to grocery shopping, or taking care of anything except for her own desires.
Kate put the bags of groceries in her trunk, when she noticed a young girl. She looked pretty young to be out on the streets alone this late. Approaching her, Kate smiled warmly and said, "Nice evening, isn't it?" she didn't want to accuse the young girl of needing money or being homeless. That would just be rude. Instead, she would engage in conversation and let the girl mention it herself.

Jesse wasn't the type of girl to really be nice to anyone. Ever since she was young, she'd been growing up in foster care. And had some pretty bad experiences. It was hard to remember when down this road she had turned into the girl she was now. But this was who she was.
Looking up at the adult, Jesse folded her arms across her chest. "Yeah. I guess so." she retorted. Her tone wasn't exactly nice. But that was just how Jesse was. She didn't even have any friends. With the exception of one.

Kate looked up at the sky., "I think it's gonna snow." she commented before looking back at her. "I'm gonna go get a hot chocolate, but I don't want to drink it alone. Wanna join me? It'll be my treat." she extended her hand. "I'm Kate by the way."

Jesse looked down at the woman's hand before looking back up. She didn't extend her own hand. "The name's Jessica." she replied. Hot Chocolate? Well, she could just say yes. It wasn't like she had any money right now. "Sure. I could go for some too." she added, in the same tone she used before.

Why was this woman bothering to be nice to her? To people, she was just a hoodlum, to other's a delinquint. Sometimes people just thought of her as a waste. "I would really like to go to Starbuckes." She replied, getting into the car.

"Starbucks it is" Kate said, getting in. She wasn't going to not be nice. That wasn't her. It was Chris. And right now, Chris didn't have control, she did. She headed for Starbucks, looking at her "so, do you live around here?"

Jesse looked over at her. "Um-yeah-you could say that." Well, it wasn't a lie. She did live there. Only she lived on the streets.

Kate picked up on it, but didn't say anything "I could, eh? Well, what could I say about your parents?" she asked, wanting to know where they were. She would like to think they didn't just let their daughter roam the streets at night.

"I-I don't have parents. Not really. I live in a foster home. I did." Jesse looked away and stared outside the window. Why was she acting like this? Normally, she acted all tough and everything.

Kate looked at her. She did? It sounded to her like this girl could use a place to crash "you did as in you were adopted?" she asked with a smile, her tone optimistic

"Let's face it. No one wants to adopted some Juvinile Delinquint. And I don't blame them." Jesse retorted looking down at her hands in her lap.

Jesse looked up. "What?" she asked, in a soft tone.
