The bell was about to ring. Another student had just sat down after reading their poem out loud. And Ms. Kwan said, "Alright. We have time for one more." From where Shayne was sitting, he had a perfect view of Megan Del Rossi. She was just one row over and three seats ahead of him. And lately Shayne couldn't help himself and had been daydreaming an awful lot while staring at her. He barely even knew her. Even though Matt was his best friend, he had never gone over to his house. And the two didn't hang out if Matt was around his family. It was kind of an unspoken rule.
Ms. Kwan looked at him, and gave him an unamused look. "Mr. Van Zandt. Care to join us?"
Shayne snapped out of his daydream and looked up at her. "Yes ma'am. I'm sorry."
"We haven't heard from you lately, Shayne. Why don't you come up and read us one of your latest poems. You have been keeping up with your journal, haven't you?"
Shayne grabbed his journal. "Yes, ma'am. I have and I'd be happy to share one." He stood up and went to the front of the room, flipping to the last written page. "This one is called because of you."
"You're in my dreams at night And everyday I find I am thinking of you Wish you would hold me tight Can't think of a better place than to be with you You're always on my mind Ever since I looked into your eyes And I just can't imagine life Without you And it's all because of you Because of you I can be myself and I'm more secure Because of you there is nothing in my mind that I am not sure of You open my eyes and show me how the world can be I fell in love with you, I just wish that you can see it And while you're sitting there you're heart wrenched with pain I sit on the sidelines wishing I could make you happy again I can make your dreams come true If you would let me love you"
The bell rang as Shayne finished his poem. Ms. Kwan looked up at the clock, and said, "Save your comments for Monday. We'll discuss Shayne's poem when we come back. Enjoy you're three day weekend everybody."
Shayne went back to his desk, his heart pounding. He had kept his eyes on Megan the entire time he read it. Had she noticed? He wasn't exactly planning on telling her that it was for her, but what was he going to do if she'd asked him. He wasn't sure how obvious he had been as the classroom quickly emptied out, he noticed that she was still standing there. What was she doing? Wasn't she dying to get out of that school just as much as everyone else was? Three day weekends were always horrible when it came to the traffic leaving the school. It was almost like the last day of school. Everybody was dying to get out of there. And yet, he knew in a couple of hours, they'd all be coming back to go to the rally. Shayne was planning on taking his time leaving, and going behind the crowd. And he wasn't planning on going to the rally. He hated those things. Maybe that was what Megan was doing? Waiting until she knew she wouldn't get caught up in the mass exovus. That is until he saw that she was walking over to him. He had never actually had talked to her before. And as much as he liked her he didn't know what he could possibly say. Maybe he could pretend like he didn't see her and get out of there quick. Shoving everything into his backpack, he hearidly lifted up, swung it over his shoulder, and made a bee-line for the door. That is until he heard her voice.

Sure, Megan had noticed him kind of watching her. But she didn't want to say anything about that. She didn't know what to say really. But one thing for sure was that she really did like the poem. "Shayne?" she called out, innocently, wanting him to not leave yet. The two hadn't really ever talked before. She didn't even know what she wanted to say exactly. "Um-I just-I really like your poem. It was beautiful."

Shayne had just got his hand on the doorknob, when she started talking about his poem. He looked up at her and smiled a little. "Why thank you." he said, with a nod. "I couldn't just disappoint Ms. Kwan, now could I?" he said, as if that was the only poem that he'd ever written like that. But it wasn't. Shayne's poems had gone from silly to amusing to really romantic in just a few months. And he didn't even have the nerve to tell her why. He looked out into the hallway. It was completely empty by now, with the exception of the janitor. He looked back at her. "I better not keep you. I'm sure you want to go home and change so that you can get to the rally." That was what all the girls were doing, so he didn't figure that Megan was any different.

"Actually, I'm not going to the Rally. It's just not my scene really." Megan really didn't like being around a crowd of people. She preferred to be alone lately. "I figured that I would just go home and lock myself in my room. Besides, I'm grounded anyway."

"Grounded? Somehow, I can't imagine you being grounded." he said with a smile. He wasn't one of those guys who didn't care about parents. As much as he liked her, he wasn't going to try and get her to sneak out like other guys might have. He had to much respect for that. "Can I at least walk you home? There's a lot of creeps out there. It wouldn't be a date, of course, it would just be for your protection. And I can just check you out-I mean, check on you later. Just to make sure you're okay." Shayne didn't want to sound like a pyscho or anything or a stalker. He simply wanted to spend more time with her.

Before, Megan wasn't quite sure if Shayne actually liked her. But now? It was definetely more clear. She didn't say anything on it, though. She wasn't even sure how she actually felt. Not to mention that she really liked Jack. "Yeah. I did some-pretty bad things. But I'm done. Let's not get into what all that was though." She smiled, innocently. "I'd like that, though, if you'd walk me home. That's really sweet of you to offer."

Shayne grinned "all right, um, do you need to stop by your locker? Cause I need to drop off something at mine real quick" he said, biting his lip. He couldn't help liking her. She was soooo pretty! and smart, too

Megan smiled, innocently, and nodded. "Okay." And with that, she walked down She put her books inside and sighed. God, she wished that she wasn't grounded. She just shrugged and closed her locker. Megan went to the doors and waited.
