Shanna was not a normal child. She never had been. Sure when she was a baby, things had been great. Both her parents loved her more than anything. But when Shanna had turned 7, her father was killed in a robbery at a convienent store. Things had been hard on her and her mother for the following year to come. But not long after the anniversary of her father's death, Shanna's mother had met a guy. He didn't want a kid so neither did she. And that was when she was all alone in the world. Here Shanna was, 8 years old, and she had no one in this cold world. Her mother and new boyfriend left in the middle of the night, leaving the child alone. That was the last time that Shanna ever saw her parents again.
That had been when her problems began.
Shanna learned to be hard, cold, to only care for herself and nobody else. She was staying in a group home where the kids just loved to pick on her. One day, she had had enough of it and so she put some bleach into her drink to poison her. Unfortunately, that only led her to spend her very first night in juvie, and at only 9 years of age.
Now if only that had taught her a lesson. But it hadn't. She got out 5 months later and was sent to a different group home. The 9 year old hated the place, so she had decided to run away. She got pretty far too, before someone reconized her. Turned out, she was reported as missing. But the woman didn't have a chance to report the young child to the cops. As soon as her back had been turned, Shanna pulled out a knife, stabbing her in the leg. However, a witness saw and called the cops. And so the girl was told that she would remain in juvie until she was 12 years of age.
Upon getting released, the child still hadn't learned and didn't care too. Being tough was the only way Shanna knew to survive. She ran away from her new group home, and as she walked down the street noticed a running car with no one in sight. So, climbing in, Shanna put the car into drive and took off. It wasn't long before the car had been reported stolen, but by then, she had already made her way to Toronto. That was when she had finally been caught. Shanna had to report to court, only to spend another year in Juvie.
When she had gotten out, Shanna was 13 years old and was told that she would remain on probation until she was 18. Unfortunately, her staying out of trouble only lasted 3 months. And then she was back to running away, stealing...Shanna was caught by the store owner stealing many things and when he had approached the teen, Shanna pulled her knife and stabbed him. The cops were called immediately and it was back to juvie.
That would be where she remains now, and she wasn't sure that she could ever change. Shanna was 14 years now. This had been going on since she was 9. It was too late to change, wasn't it? But Shanna wasn't even sure if she really wanted too. She loved others fearing her and many of the young children here did in fact fear her. Good. she thought. That should stay this way.
Now it was lunch time, and Shanna walked into the room, already filled with other kids. Several looking at her, fear in their eyes. Of course. She wasn't one to mess with at 14 years. It had been 6 months of being here, so many people knew already what Shanna was capable of. She smirked as she got her lunch and sat at an empty table, wanting to be away from everyone. She definetely wasn't a people person.

Jack. Jack. Jack. Jack. Jack. Jack. Jack.
Over and over again. Pages and pages and pages of one name: Jack. Matt wasn't stupid. He knew what this meant. And he knew what he had to do. Matt might not have been the oldest kid, but he was the first one to be adopted. So that made him older in a sense. He had to protect his family. Jack had to die.
But maybe Matt could have done it smarter. Tossing a firecracker into the house just wasn't the best way to handle it. Especially not when Jack wasn't even home. And when he was picked up by police, he really shouldn't have answered their question honestly. The boy had been asked if he felt like hurting himself or anyone else. His answer?
"I'm going to kill Jack Basely."
He had expected them to ask why. He could have gotten the jackass arrested! But no. Instead, he was sent to the juvenile detention center over the weekend. Matt didn't belong here. He had never even been here before. And the whole place scared him.
It was lunchtime, and he had his tray. He looked around and spotted a girl. She was alone, and it reminded Matt of how he used to eat lunch alone until Marissa came along. Looking around, he walked over to her and sat across from her. He didn't even ask. He just sat down. "Hi." He didn't want to be rude, so he decided to make conversation.

Everyone else that knew Shanna knew that they should never sit down or have lunch with her. It was just a rule. Shanna hated everyone. She hated her mother. She even hated herself, but she wasn't about to admit to that last one. Not ever! Shanna shook her head and barely looked up, making eye contact. "First time here, huh?" she finally spoke, after several minutes of silence on her part.
Shanna was a girl who spent her time alone. She had no family. She didn't make any friends. She didn't accept people talking to her like that. There was something in her eyes. Something dark hidden in them. That was because she was a dark girl. She was cruel. She was pyschotic. But none of that really mattered to her now.
Shanna turned her attention back to her tray and smirked. "You obviously don't know the rules here. But noone...and I mean noone...should talk to me or try to act nice." Shanna pushed her tray away from her and glared at the boy who apparently looked older than herself. "If I had my knife on me, believe me, I would seriously use it."

"Is it that obvious?" he asked with a chuckle. She was probably used to this place. He looked around. He didn't think he could ever be used to this place. Hannah was, he knew. She had a reputation when she was here. Everyone knew who she was. Matt would rather stay quiet and not be known. He stirred his food with his fork a little bit before he heard her speak again.
"Yeah? I'm not really one to follow rules." Yes, yes he was. In school he was a good kid. At home, he was a good kid. This was just a...a fluke. "You know those girls who keep getting killed with a ringed scar and all that? They get tortured and killed in the worst ways. Well, I'm here because I found out who was doing it and tried to kill him. So, you really don't scare me. Besides, you're too cute to be afraid of you"

Not afraid? Of her? That just wasn't normal. Not in her little twisted world. Shanna just rolled her eyes. "You don't know me enough to be afraid." She looked around at her surroundings. "I mean, look around. Seriously. Just look. You know why I sit here, alone? Did you wonder that?" She shook her head. "It's because everyone in this fucked up place is afraid of me. They know better than to even mess with me."
"I was placed in a group home when I was 8. After a few months of that, I hated it so much...I put bleach in some girls drink, trying to poison her. But you probably have no idea what it's like...to live in a group home. To have not one single person care about you." She sighed and took a bite of the food in front of her.

Matt looked around and back at her. "Maybe they are. But I don't care. I'm not exactly Mr. Popularity of the year that I care what people think." and to prove it, he stood up and went around to the other side, sliding in beside her. "I'm Matt." he introduced himself to her.
He listened to her story and slowly nodded. "I don't, but my sister does. See, I'm adopted. My brothers and sisters are, too. Now, Hannah, she wasn't adopted until she was 13, And she went through group homes and was here alot. So yeah, I kinda get it."

Shanna looked to him. Shanna just wasn't used to someone just sitting down right beside her. No one ever took that chance. They knew about her. They feared that she would go all psychotic on their ass. But he didn't seem to care. "Yeah. Well, why was she in foster care?" She just shrugged.
"My dad was killed. I was seven. A year later, mom got a boyfriend. And since he didn't wanna kid, neither did she anymore and she left. Just like that. With no note, no goodbye. She left an 8 year old alone." Shanna shook her head. "What can I say? My mother was a bitch. And she can go to Hell for all I care." She looked back to Matt. "I'm Shanna."

Matt leaned back and looked at her. "Her mom was in prison when she had her. She never even knew her dad." He listened to her story and scoffed. "Mothers are bitches. Birth fathers too. The only set of parents worth having are gay fathers." he informed her. He loved his parents. They needed to get back together already. e." "You know what you need? You need to meet my dad. He adopts everyone! He'll take you in. And believe me, it's like having an instant family. They actually care." It took Matt a long time to accept that. But he grew to learn that no matter who they were, as soon as they came in the home, they were family.

Family. As if. Shanna was her own family and she did not need anyone else. Family or friends. And believe me, this girl had neither. People either hated her or feared her. How could a girl who was just fourteen years old be so screwed up? Maybe if you dad had never been killed, maybe if her mother had stuck around, things could have been different. Maybe she would have been happy. Maybe this girl would have had a family to go home to right now. But I guess that we'll never know. And this girl? Shanna? She'll forever be alone. She never thought that she would be able to turn her life around at all.
Shanna couldn't help but scoff. "They wouldn't want a kid like me. One wrong word and I'd probably end up slitting their throat." She shook her head and looked around the room. Hey...she was being honest. "Believe me...I've done it before. Just never got caught with that one."

Matt listened to her. She sounded just like Hannah. Was it the rhyming? Do all girls with names that rhymed with Banana carry knives? or was it the Juvenile hall? Matt was pretty sure it was the latter. After all, Bananas never hurt anyone. He looked at Shanna, a wistful smile on his face. "God, you're cool" he whispered. "Do me a favor. Don't ever change" because Hannah changed. It was Jack's fault, too. She was like....broken.

Shann suddeny looked up at the older boy. Cool? Never change? Was this kid for real? Nobody ever thought of her as cool. And surely, everybody did want her to change. Actually, everybody probably wanted her dead. "Are you for real? You have no idea what you're talking about." And she truly believed that. "Do you think I like being all alone? To have nobody to turn to?" She quickly shrugged away her words, and scoffed. "Me changing is highly unlikely."

Matt nodded "you won't be here forever. I guarantee it. And when you get out of here, be the biggest bitch possible. I swear, it's completely hot and awesome. No matter what, stay just like that" he smirked "and if you need your loneliness cured, just let me know"

Shanna blushed at that. Was he serious? She actuall never gave friends, much less guys, much thought. "Being a bitch really is not a problem. I've been one at a very young age." She looked up at him. "Do you really think that? That it's awesome...and...and hot?"

"I wouldn't lie and say it wasn't" he said with a slow smile. "I bet you're fucking sexy when you're mad" he said with a wink

"Well, I am a natural redhead. You know how our temper can get." AAnd it was true. Her temper...she wasn't one to mess with. "You know, I've never met somebody who wasn't scared of me." she smirked. "I think I might like you. Remember I said might, though."
