She put a smile on her face and acted like she didn't care. She acted like it was no big thing. As if the two weren't engaged. Jenna looked at her ring. Everyone said it was stupid, anyways. The girl was only in ninth grade. But it meant everything to her. They were planning a life together. And now, he was gone. Left without a word to her. What had she done wrong? Jenna thought over the past few months that they had been together. She had to have done something wrong. But what? What could have deserved this? To be left like this?
But everyone had worse troubles. Serial murderers and such. So, she plastered a smile on her face and acted like it was no big deal. But, it was. And she hated herself for him being gone. Of course, she couldn't speak up. She couldn't say that she wished the Sniper would come and kill her. Because then, at least the pain, the heartache would be over. She couldn't do that. Not when everyone had their own problems to worry about. She didn't want to seem needy.
Biting her lip, Jenna took the ring off. It was here that he had proposed. Right in this very spot, in the sand. And it was here that she would get rid of it. She didn't want it anymore. All it did was serve as a reminder that she screwed everything up somehow. Clenching it in a fist, she closed her eyes and whispered a goodbye. It was then that she threw the ring, right into the water. As soon as she did, she finally broke down and cried. Jenna hadn't shed a single tear. But now, watching her ring get swept away by the waves, she couldn't help it.

Two months pregnant. Avalon could not believe it. Pregnant? The girl never saw herself as ever becoming a mother. Maybe because she never had a mother herself. Would Avalon be able to take care of a new born child and her sister? Well, there was one thing that the eighteen year old knew for sure. She was not going to get an abortion. And then there was the father to think about. Would he want to know? Would he even care? Would he just ignore her completely? Well, Ava definitely was not going to consider marriage. She did not, have never, seen herself as the marrying type. This just could not be happening. Well, she had two choices to make. She could either give her child up for adoption or she could keep it. At lease she had plenty of time to consider her options. Seven months to be exact.
For now, Avalon was going to focus on getting her sister back. “Steph, don’t worry. I will be back for you. Promise. Cross my heart and hope to die. They just won’t let me take you right now. Not until I have a steady job and an apartment for us. I hope you can understand this.” Those were her final words she said to her baby sister. And she gave her sister a hug and a kiss before leaving to start working on getting her life back on track. That was ten months ago.
Avalon did not exactly have the easiest of lives. It was just most never knew of what she had gone through. The girls father would never do the things he had done with Stephanie. He never hit her, touched her. For the most part. That is, until Avalon learned of the things that he was doing to her baby sister. One night when it was just her and her father in the house, she hid behind his bedroom door and waited. And when he walked into the room, she took the bat that she had in her hand and knocked him down to the ground. That was the first and only time her father had ever beat her. And he made sure that Ava knew that she deserved her beating for what she had done. If anyone asked, he would say that she had fallen down a flight of stairs. Ava was twelve then.
There were several times after being taken away from home that a couple who seemed perfect would take her in. The first home she went into had two older boys. Twins, four years older than Ava was. They use to tease her and bully her. They even hurt her physically. She had been in that home for three months and then that word was said. Adoption. Ava did not want to live in that home and she did not want to be adopted without her sister. But they did not want her. And Ava told them to go to hell and to send her back. She went into maybe four other homes. She caused a lot of problems and soon, people just did not want to try and take this child in. She was fifteen when she had been placed into her last foster home. That was three years ago. Ever since then, she had been staying in a group home. Up until ten months ago, however. On her eighteenth birthday, when she was old enough to leave.
Ava already found an apartment, had a full time job. The apartment had two bedrooms and Ava had Steph’s room all set up. With things Ava knew that her sis loved and with her walls the color that she loves the most. Anytime now, Ava would be able to go and get her sister. And she could not wait for that to happen.
It was her day off and Avalon had decided to take a walk. After all, it was such a beautiful day. Why waste it? And somehow, the girl ended up at the beach. She had not been here in so long. Maybe because she was so busy pulling her own life together. She was walking close to the water, letting the water run over her bare feet, her shoes in her right hand. But then the girl heard a noise. It sounded like…was someone crying? Ava looked up from the ground and noticed a young girl. Someone who could not be more than 14 or 15 years old. She could not help it. She had to walk over, see if the younger girl was alright. Maybe it was her motherly instinct kicking in. Rushing over, Ava kneeled down beside her, placing a very gentle hand on the girls shoulder. “Hey there, Sweetie? What happened? Is there anything that I can help you with?”

Jenna didn't think anyone understood. This was not just some boyfriend. Jenna had up until this year been a tomboy. She hadn't started liking boys in that way. She watched her best friend get all gushy over boys but she never understood it. Not until Stephan. The two had never really crossed paths before she got on the boys’ basketball team. And at first, she didn't even like him. That is, until he stood up to JJ. When he did that, everything changed. Jenna was acting like...well, a girl. She spent hours looking for the perfect outfit for her first date. When he cheated on her, she had never felt so betrayed. And then he did the sweetest thing. He took her to the beach and proposed. He promised to never hurt her again. And she believed him. And then he left. Without a word. Just like Charlie did to JJ. But JJ was moving on. Jenna couldn't see how she could. She truly felt like she was dying.
She looked up at Avalon when she spoke to her. Could she help? Jenna didn't see how she could. Shaking her head, she pushed a tuft of hair behind her ear. ''I just found out that my boyfriend moved. I have no idea where he went. So much for true love, right?'' True love? What a joke. She was fifteen. True love didn't exist. It never would.
